The head of Sin, also known as Overdrive Sin, is a boss in Final Fantasy X, and is the last of the four-part battle against Sin.
Stats[]
Battle[]
Sin will charge towards the player on their airship, approaching slowly for its first three turns. Until it reaches the party, it is out of range from melee attacks. It will spend the next nine turns gradually opening its mouth.
Once Sin's mouth is completely open, it will use its Overdrive, Giga-Graviton, to destroy the player's party, resulting in a Game Over. It is not possible to protect against Giga-Graviton, as it bypasses damage altogether and simply causes a scripted Game Over. Even summoning an aeon will not prevent this.
Sin's only means of attack, used as a counter after being targeted six times, is a party-wide Gaze attack with three variations that have a 30% chance to inflict a negative status effect: Petrification, Confusion, or Zombie. Against aeons, it will counter after being targeted three times.
Strategy[]
Aeons' Overdrives are useful in removing Sin's HP before it can destroy the player's party. If Lulu can do so, doublecasting Flare or Ultima is effective. Auron should use Armor Break to make Sin vulnerable to attacks, and Tidus should cast Hastega on the party and use Quick Hit, which can allow him several attacks in a row.
It is possible to end the battle quickly by having Rikku mix a Trio of 9999, wait until Sin is in range, and use multi-hit attacks, such as Tidus's, Lulu's or Wakka's Overdrives, or Rikku's elemental gems. A strong Anima Overdrive can KO Sin in one hit.
Armor with Confuse and Stone Ward is sufficient to protect against Gaze, saving turns spent healing and recasting Haste, Cheer, or Focus.
