The Silver Barrette is the third weapon for Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII. It is has four linked Materia slots. The weapon has modest stats, though slightly ahead of weapons available for other characters at the time, particularly for Magic.

Like all Red XIII's weapons, Silver Barrette Pin is not rendered or visible in-game, and also cannot be thrown.

Obtained[]

The Silver Barrette can be purchased for 3,500 gil from Cosmo Canyon. Thereafter, it cannot be sold, and there are no other places to obtain it.

Mechanics[]

As the Silver Barrette has a base Attack stat bonus of 40, the base damage for physical attacks when the Silver Barrette is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Red XIII's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Silver Barrette also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 110%, and grants a +10 bonus to Red XIII's Magic stat.

Use[]

The Silver Barrette is slightly ahead of weapons available for other characters upon reaching Cosmo Canyon, and a considerable improvement over both of Red XIII's previously available weapons. Therefore, it is a worthwhile purchase if the player is using Red XIII (and he is a mandatory character for the Cave of the Gi). As the weapon cannot be sold, it should otherwise be skipped.

The Silver Barrette as four linked Materia slots. Due to the Magic boost by the weapon and Red XIII's own stats, Red XIII is one of the best mages along with Cloud and Aeris, making him a great choice for many Magic or Summon Materia. Support Materia can be equipped on both sets of slots, meaning the weapon makes Red XIII flexible in what he can equip, either for offensive or defensive purposes.

The weapon is outclassed by the Gold Barrette (available at Wutai). The Adaman Clip, which is available later at the Icicle Inn, is a more substantial improvement, meaning players may opt for it instead. Additionally, the Seraph Comb, obtained for free after the Cave of the Gi, has greater stats than any of these weapons, but no linked Materia slots; nonetheless, the trade off may be more worthwhile for Red XIII.
