Final Fantasy Wiki

The Silent Shot is ammunition for guns in Final Fantasy XII. Guns cannot be equipped without owning some kind of shot. Owning the Silent Shot means the player can use an unlimited amount, and shots do not need a license to be equipped alongside a gun. Silent Shot has a chance of inflicting a susceptible target with Silence.

Obtain[]

Original[]

The Silent Shot is not bought from shops, but sells for 200 gil. The shot is found in a treasure in Cerobi Steppe's Crossfield Map 04 Cerobi Steppe. The player can come to the steppe early via a chocobo from Phon Coast. It is a rare treasure when equipping the Diamond Armlet like all equipment finds on the steppe.

The shot is also made in the bazaar set "Marksman's Delight" alongside the Capella gun. It costs 1,680 gil and is made by selling two Fish Scales and Green Liquids, as well as three Dark Stones. Fish Scales are obtained from various fish-type foes, such as Danbania, and from the fishing minigame. Green Liquid is obtained from flan, such as Slimes and Tallows. Dark Stones are obtained from various undead enemies, such as Zombies and Dark Skeletons.

Zodiac[]

The Silent Shot set is sold by the Baknamy merchant in the Necrohol of Nabudis for 400 gil. The player can come to the Necrohol of Nabudis early, after they have the Dawn Shard, but the enemies in this dungeon would be very tough to take on then; the player could beeline to the merchant and then make their way back out.

The shot is found as a treasure in Garamsythe Waterway's No. 10 Channel (Drained) (90% chance to appear, 50% chance for an item, 50% chance the item treasure is the Silent Shot without the Diamond Armlet equipped), Ozmone Plain's Haulo Greens (80% chance to appear, 60% chance for an item, 50% chance the item treasure is the Silent Shot without the Diamond Armlet equipped), Phon Coast's The Mauleia Strand (70% chance to appear, 50% chance for an item, 50% chance the item treasure is the Silent Shot without the Diamond Armlet equipped) , and Tchita Uplands' Realm of the Elder Dream (40% chance to appear, 30% chance for an item, 50% chance the item treasure is the Silent Shot without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as the Trial Mode Stage 15 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.

The shot is still made alongside the Capella in the "Marksman's Delight" bazaar set for the same items but for a cheaper price: 550 gil.

Use[]

The Silent Shot adds but 1 point to the gun's power but also holds the useful Silence status with a 25% flat chance of inflicting a susceptible target; inflicting statuses via shots is usually better than via bolts or arrows, which can miss more often, especially if it is windy.

Silence is best against magick-using enemies (though many of them are immune) and saves a turn from the Black Mage of using Silence. Silence Shot can be good against the optional King Bomb and the marks Braegh, Ixtab, and Vyraal.

As shots can be swapped on-the-fly, the player could start with the Silent Shot and after the ailment sticks, change to a stronger shot. The shot is only useful to procure in the Zodiac versions if the player is using a Machinist or a Shikari with the Shemhazai license.

Aletap Rumors[]

Witness the marksman! You'll find that the steadiest of arms and truest of aims belong to the most cautious, cowardly fellows of the bunch. These be they that use silent shot and like trickery to make sure that, when that one killing shot misses its mark, it draws no unfriendly attention. Just between you and me, I've found through plentiful study that this shot be made with magickal processes of a most special variety, requiring darkness trapped within a certain kind of scale! A scale!
