Silence is a magic spell in Final Fantasy VII Remake. It is the second-level spell provided by Binding Materia, and inflicts the Silence debuff on a target. This prevents a target from being able to cast spells.

Use[]
Silence costs 4 MP to cast, and can be used by characters with binding materia at level 2. The spell applies the Silence debuff, preventing a target from casting spells for its duration. This makes it very effective against enemies that rely on spells for most of their damage.
The drawback to Silence is that its effect is less useful than Sleep or Stop, as it does not prevent an enemy from attacking entirely. Against enemies that use physical damage more often, Silence is ineffective, and it may be better instead to reduce magic damage or provide resistance to debuffs rather than to use Silence.
Etymology[]
サイレス (Sairesu?, lit. Silece) derives from the transliteration of the word "silence" into Japanese (サイレンス, sairensu?) but with the ン (n?) removed to follow the four-character Japanese naming scheme for spells.
