The character's voice is lost, preventing the casting of magicks. Remove with Echo Herbs.
Description
Silence is a status in Final Fantasy XII that renders the affected unable to use magicks or summon Espers, but can still use attacks and Technicks. Quickenings were sealed when silenced in the original version, but can still be used in the Zodiac versions. Silence does not wear off over time like most other statuses, and even persists after KO.
Abilities[]

When the player equips the Manufacted Nethicite accessory, they have permanent Silence that cannot be removed.
Silence and Silencega spells' efficacy depends on stats and potential Faith on the caster or Shell on the target, but the spells will always inflict the status unless the recipient is outright immune when the caster equips the Indigo Pendant.
Silenced characters can use Stamp to pass it onto others. If they also have Manufacted Nethicite they will always have the status, ready to use Stamp, though this is likely the most cumbersome method of inflicting it.
Silence can also be inflicted with items designed to heal it when the item-user equips the Nihopalaoa accessory.
The ally-targeting gambit specifically for this status is called "Ally: status = Silence" and the self-targeting one is "Self: status = Silence" (though the ally-targeting also affects self). In the original version, these gambits can be bought for 50 gil after the events at Draklor Laboratory. The basic enemy-targeting gambit is "Foe: status = Silence", which in the original version is available to purchase after obtaining the Dawn Shard. "Foe: character status = Silence", meanwhile, is available in the original version for 100 gil after the boss battle at Mt Bur-Omisace. In the Zodiac versions, all gambits can be purchased after leaving Nalbina Dungeons; the basic status ones cost 70 gil whereas "Foe: character status = Silence" costs 300 gil.
