Silence is a status in Final Fantasy VI. A character inflicted by silence cannot use Magic, Dualcast, or Lore. The status is also removed at the end of battle. The silence status was probably supposed to persist even after the battle since Echo Screen is usable outside of battle, or it might simply be the developer's oversight. Silenced characters have a speech bubble with '...'.
