Unleash an attack only available when blind.
Description
Sight Unseeing is a Technick in Final Fantasy XII that attempts to reduce an enemy to minimal health, but is only usable when the user is blinded. It can be useful for poaching enemies.
Sight Unseeing is purchased from certain Technicks shops in the original PlayStation 2 version and is found in a treasure in the Zodiac versions. In the original version, all player characters who have the License Board can activate it. In the Zodiac versions, it is used by certain jobs and by Reddas.
Obtain[]
The license for Sight Unseeing costs 40 License Points. In the original PlayStation 2 version, Sight Unseeing is sold in Technicks shops for 6800 gil in Jahara (after visiting Eruyt Village), and in Rabanastre and Nalbina Fortress after defeating Judge Bergan.
In the Zodiac versions, the Technick is found in Zertinan Caverns' Canopy of Clay area. It always appears. This area of the caverns is accessed from the sandseas and the treasure is situated right in the middle. The player can go pick it up when the story takes the party to the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea, but they need to go out of their way to nab it as it is an optional area to visit.
In the Zodiac versions, the Sight Unseeing license can be used by the job classes Foebreaker, Knight, Bushi, and Monk. Monks must first acquire the License for the Esper Zeromus. Reddas also has it in the Zodiac versions.
Mechanics[]
Sight Unseeing reduces the target to single digit health or all the way to 0; if the ability reduces an opponent's HP to 0, it functions as an instant KO attack. The Technick initially has a low base hit chance, but improves as soon as the user's level exceeds the target's level. The Technick's range is the same as the equipped weapon's. Like all Technicks, Sight Unseeing is unaffected by Reverse.
If the user's level exceeds the target's, the chance becomes:
Sight Unseeing misses on enemies who have the Safety augment, meaning it will not work on Rare Game, Marks, bosses, elementals, or the undead. However, there are a few areas in the game where the Technick works well.
Sight Unseeing awakes sleeping targets, but does not recover MP to the user with Inquisitor license.
Use[]
The player can use Blind magick to blind a party member, or use an Eye Drops with Nihopalaoa equipped. Sight Unseeing can be used to poach enemies, a reducing them to minimal health makes them easy targets for it. However, Poach is rarely needed; the player can get most of the same items as monograph drops and steals.
In Subterra, the frog- and mistmare-type enemies are weak against Sight Unseeing and can be killed rapidly with it, a useful tactic as the enemies there are intended to swarm the party.
