Shunye is a character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is the only employee at Shunye's Apothecary and is Uapyota's brother. Shunye is the Wachumeqimeqi Delivery client for the Disciples of the Land.

History[]

Before Dawntrail[]

As is the custom of Shetona men, Shunye used to travel the land and formed a bond with his first family in a small village in the north, between high mountains. The village was isolated and it was necessary to cross two mountains to reach the nearest village. Not long after his departure, while Shunye was staying in the nearest village, he discovered the news that his village had been destroyed in mysterious circumstances without leaving survivors. Shunye believed the cause was a meteorite that had been visible in the sky for days and had disappeared behind the mountain peaks, but he had no evidence. Shunye could not follow the Shetona customs and found another family. Since then, he has stopped traveling, and has lived alone in Tuliyollal for the last fifty years.[1]

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]

Due to a lack of employees, Shunye began to have difficulty collecting ingredients for his Apothecary. On Ropli's recommendation, the Warrior of Light visited the Apothecary to help with the labor. Just as Shunye met the Warrior, a viera by the name of Uvlo interrupted the conversation. Uvlo said he came from the village of Kuguma in Othard and asked to be hired in exchange for his knowledge about the Shetona of Tural.[2]

Eager to test their skills, Shunye asked them to provide him with basic products from his apothecary. Once they returned with quality items, Shunye was impressed, especially with Uvlo who, despite it being his first time in Tural, managed to gather the items without needing a guide. So Shunye agreed to hire them both for future delivery requests.[3]

Shunye was worried about the lack of funds in Uvlo's wallet. Even though Uvlo told him not to worry because he was used to camping, Shunye invited Uvlo to move in with him. Shunye eventually asked for some more items for the two of them. After the Warrior of Light delivered the items, Shunye seemed satisfied with his work, but when Uvlo returned with his delivery, he was speechless at the beauty of the amethysts. Uvlo explained that his people lived among rough mountains and had developed a talent for mining. He revealed that he was acting as an emissary for his village and intended to eventually return to his people to share the knowledge he had acquired about the outside world. The Shetona were of particular interest to him, being a people so far away, yet so similar to his own.[4]

The apothecary was visited by Shunye's sister, Uapyota, who was disappointed to discover that her brother was going to continue with his business. She placed an order for cleaning products and said goodbye. Once the products were ready, Shunye entrusted the Warrior of Light to deliver Uapyota, and Uvlo volunteered to accompany him. Uapyota accepted the delivery and apologized for her previous rudeness. She revealed her concern for Shunye and his tragic past. Once back, Shunye confessed that he believed the cause of the destruction of his former home was a fallen meteorite. He had little evidence to support his theory, apart from some blue stone fragments that he called Azure Tears.[1]

At Uvlo's insistence, Shunye allowed the Warrior of Light and Uvlo to go to Yak T'el, where a meteorite had fallen, and look for something that might be similar to the Azure Tears. The pair investigated the site and returned with some small fragments with a color similar to the Azure Tears. This was still not enough to establish a connection between the Azure Tears and the meteorite.[5]

Shunye consulted the Warrior of Light and Uvlo, and together they decided the best course of action would be to travel to Mamook, and ask the residents if they had seen a stone similar to the Azure Tears. After Uvlo and the Warrior of Light returned to Tuliyollal, the pair gave the azure fragment to Shunye, who began to analyze it. Shunye confirmed its properties corresponded exactly to those of Azure Tears, and the apothecary concluded it was composed of molten earth and crystallized aether formed after the impact of a meteorite. This revelation allowed him to accept his loss and ponder what awaited him in the next chapter of his life. Shunye expressed his gratitude to Uvlo and the Warrior of Light for solving this long-standing mystery. He pondered resuming the traditional Shetona journey, and Uvlo was eager to join him. Shunye was reluctant to leave his beloved store and the customers he served, deciding instead to stay in Tuliyollal for a while longer.[6]
