Let the shuriken fly across the battlefield, mowing down all enemies it touches. Can use while airborne.

Description

Shooting Star is an ability for Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, granted by the Crescent Sickle Crescent Sickle. Yuffie throws her weapon, which will automatically target foes on its own for a duration or until retrieved.

Shooting Star is a new ability to Rebirth.

Obtained[]

Shooting Star is provided by the crescent sickle. Striking multiple enemies with one use of Shooting Star gains proficiency bonus.

Use[]

Shooting Star effectively works similar to Yuffie's Throw, except that it costs an ATB charge. As with Throw, it fires Yuffie's shuriken, which will deal damage to enemies while in the air, during which Yuffie's regular attack becomes the ranged magic ninjutsu (which can be imbued using Elemental Ninjutsu).

Shooting Star on its own deals physical damage, based on Yuffie's Attack Power Attack Power. However, because Yuffie's regular attacks will be magic while her weapon is thrown, this means the ability is more often used for a magic build. It can be used to marginally increase Yuffie's damage output while she uses ninjutsu and other magic-based abilities and spells. It is intended to be used against a group of enemies, as Shooting Star will bounce between the enemies whereas Throw will stick to one.

Another use for Shooting Star over Throw is if trying to deliberately expend an ATB charge while wanting to primarily attack with magic. This can be helpful to power up Banishment, Purification, or a synergy ability.

As with all of Yuffie's abilities, she can increase the damage output of Shooting Star if using it with Doppelgänger active.

Etymology and allusion[]

Shooting star is a common name for the visible path of a meteoroid as it enters the atmosphere to become a meteor. There exists a widespread superstition that a wish made on a shooting star will come true. Final Fantasy VII series have many allusions to meteorites, and Shooting Star is Yuffie's addition to the theme. However, this addition to the theme is only present in the English localization.
