Deals physical damage to the enemy.
Description
Shock is the ultimate Swd Art and Seiken in Final Fantasy IX, used by Steiner and Beatrix to inflict severe physical damage onto an enemy for the cost of 46 MP. Beatrix also uses it when she is faced as a boss.
Obtained[]
Steiner learns Shock for 60 AP from Ragnarok, his second-best knight sword, which could also be considered his ultimate knight sword as the Excalibur II, though powerful, is more of a trophy item as it is only viable to obtain in a speed run. Ragnarok is found in Chocograph 21, Outer Island , excavated from Chocobo's Air Garden. The earliest the player could get it is after the party has the Hilda Garde III.
Beatrix knows the ability natively and uses it when faced as a boss, and when she is briefly playable as a guest during the Battle of Alexandria.
Mechanics[]
When used via Swd Art or Seiken, Shock does 300% the user's normal Attack as physical damage to one enemy. Damage is halved by the enemy being under Protect and is minuscule if the user is under Mini. Shock takes into account the element of the user's weapon, but it cannot be empowered with Elem-Atk gear.
Steiner's elemental weapons:
- Ice Brand for Ice
- Coral Sword for Thunder
- Flame Saber for Fire
- Excalibur & Excalibur II for Holy
When Beatrix uses Shock as a boss, it deals severe damage to one party member, likely KO'ing them.
Use[]
Shock is Steiner's best move, dealing severe damage, hitting 9999 against most targets, even the tough Yans and Ozma, as long as Steiner does not get minied. Though expensive on his MP, it is worth using extensively in tough battles.
Origin[]
Shock is Leo Cristophe's move from Final Fantasy VI. Beatrix somewhat resembles Leo, and Shock could be considered her move, as she uses it first, which Steiner can also later learn.
