Shirma Magnolie is a kind-hearted White Mage who is a constant worrier in Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon. She is a supporting character to Chocobo who lives with her Aunt Stella at the farm at the outskirts of Lostime. Shirma does not like that the townspeople are okay with losing their memories, because she personally had precious memories she wanted to keep.

Shirma is a recurring type of character in the Chocobo series, a pink-haired White Mage.

History[]

A book in the empty house after the ending reveals that she and her sister are the daughters of two of the nine former heroes who died against the Destroyer: Elena, the White Mage; and Nero, the Black Mage. In Shirma's early life, she got a painful injury and her sister healed her with white magic. Shirma wanted to learn too and her sister believed white magic was the perfect school of magic for her. As Shirma promised to practice a lot, her sister vowed that they'd always be together. Shirma held this promise dear in her heart from thereafter. Alexander eventually blessed Shirma as the Oracle of Light.

When The Destroyer attacked the town that would be later be known as Lostime, Mayor Gale urged the Oracles to release the power of the Guardian Beasts to seal the Destroyer, even though this would seal everyone's memories away. Shirma did not want to lose her memories, but when her weakened sister begged her to follow through, Shirma obeyed and summoned the Guardian Beast of Light, Alexander. Shirma and the other Oracles sealed the Destroyer away, sealing Memoria from the rest of the world. Shirma's parents were killed during the battle.

The Bell of Oblivion was created in the process of sealing the Destroyer and everyone's memories away, and Shirma's sister disappeared. Shirma did not know where she was, as she had also lost her memories. Her Aunt Stella took her in after Shirma forgot what her mother looked like and the two settled on Stella's farm. Shirma came to look down upon Lostime and its townspeople for preaching the so-called "beauty" of forgetting. Despite her conviction, she forgot about her identity as the Oracle of Light or where her sister was.

Cid Chocobo Shirma FirstScene

Shirma offered for Chocobo and Cid to come with her.

Shirma met Chocobo and Cid when the two appeared at the clocktower and brought them to the farm. She asked if Chocobo had met her sister, but by then had almost forgotten about her due to the Bell of Oblivion. After Shirma realized she had left her staff in town, she rushed back to find it. She was met by Chocobo whom she told about the strange disappearance of the town's fire. Later that night, she encountered a baby Raffaello, who hatched from an egg that fell from the sky, and cared for him. After Raffaello and Chocobo helped revive Mayor Gale's memories, Shirma and Chocobo brought the baby to Stella's farm, hoping he could help Cid get his memories back after the Bell of Oblivion had wiped them earlier that day. Raffaello and Chocobo eventually retrieved Cid's memories, who thanked everyone for their help.

The next morning, Shirma found that Raffaello was missing, and rushed out to look for him. She and Chocobo ended up at Freja's forge. Freja forgot something that she was about to remember, and Raffaello appeared as a light from the sky and entered the whirlpool containing Freja's memories. After Chocobo entered the whirlpool to get him, Freja remembered she was a blacksmith, and the town regained the power of fire. Shirma stayed by Freja's forge with Raffaello while Chocobo delivered flowers to the Church.

Shirma Chocobo Fire

Shirma and Chocobo witnessed Raffaello recreate the entrance to the Shrine of Fire.

Raffaello tried to say something to Shirma, and when Chocobo returned, they headed over to the Fuego Mines. Raffaello used special powers to blast open the mines to reveal a cave shining with light, which was the entrance to the Guardian of the Flame. Raffaello entered, and Shirma pleaded with Chocobo to get him back. Chocobo later emerged from the Guardian of the Flame without him. Freja came over and explained how she remembered that she was the Oracle of Fire, and explained about the four crystals that keep everything in balance. Chocobo went back into the Guardian Flame and returned with an older Raffaello, able to walk and speak. He asked Shirma if he could have Stella's biscuits, and the three of them went back home.

Shirma Stella Cid Raffaello Chocobo 02

Shirma was hesitant to let Raffaello go out on his own.

Cid and Stella mused about how Raffaello had grown up so fast. Shirma gave him biscuits and he ate them hungrily. Raffaello asked if he could go out to play, as he was eager to see the rest of the world. Shirma did not want Raffaello going out in town by himself, but Stella allowed him. Shirma could not help but worry, so she snuck out to check in on him. She met Chocobo and the two were then met by Freja, who asked them to come and take a look at the fountain, which they found contaminated with polluted water, most likely because the Oracle of Water was losing power. Shirma asked who it was, but Freja did not know. Shirma pleaded with Chocobo to save them and the town.

Shirma later returned to Stella's farm, and conversed with Raffaello outside the house. Raffaello was concerned with why he was so different from everyone else, as no one else was born out of an egg or grew up in a cocoon. Shirma did not know, but believed that being different was a wonderful thing: when different people combine their strengths, something amazing can be achieved that would be out of reach alone. She assured Raffaello that he should be proud of who he was. Raffaello thanked Shirma, saying he would go back to town. Shirma asked him not to go too far.

Shirma collapse

Shirma collapsed from an excruciating headache.

Shirma headed over to Levia Point to find Meja, Chocobo, and a much older and depressed Raffaello, who looked close to Shirma's age, the two latter having emerged from the Guardian of the Water. Shirma barely recognized him. The four headed back, Meja to the cafe, and the other three to Stella's house. On the way, Shirma heard the clocktower bell ring. Back at Stella's house, Raffaello voiced his concerns that some unknown frightening thing was growing inside him whenever he aged, and was scared of himself. Shirma assured Raffaello could only be himself, but he was not convinced and ran out of the house. Shirma rushed after him, but Raffaello ordered her to stay away, believing she would get hurt if she got too close to him. Raffaello ran off, and Shirma was struck by excruciating headache and she collapsed and the sky turned dark. Stella and Chocobo moved Shirma into the house and onto a bed.

Shirma Dream Awake

Shirma was hesitant to sleep, but Stella told her they'd be with her.

Shirma's headache and further memory loss was caused by hearing the clocktower bell back in town. She experienced the same terrible nightmare repeatedly, but could not remember it when she awoke.

Shirma GIF Nightmare Loop

Shirma's nightmare put her through terrible suffering.

Shirma was nervous about getting rest because of the scary dream, but Stella promised that she and Chocobo would be there for her. The whirlpool of memories appeared above he sleeping Shirma, giving her terrible dreams about Raffaello. Chocobo entered the whirlpool to retrieve Shirma's memories, and she awoke from the nightmare screaming. Finally remembering the dream, she told herself that she needed to be stronger and should not be having such dreams. Stella tried to comfort Shirma by telling her she would forget the dream, but Shirma wanted to remember it, no matter how sad or scary, and wanted to keep believing and loving everyone around her.

Shirma Second Nightmare GIF Loop Wider

Shirma's suffering did not cease as she had another nightmare.

Although Chocobo had retrieved some of Shirma's memories, the Bell of Oblivion had affected her so badly that her suffering did not cease yet. Shirma tossed and turned as she dreamed about destroying the Bell of Oblivion. Chocobo dove into a second whirlpool containing Shirma's recollections and retrieved all of her memories, putting an end to her suffering. She awoke having remembered something about her staff and told Chocobo she had to get to the clocktower. She and Chocobo witnessed a shard of her memory rise up into the sky and dissipate, bringing light and day back. Shirma remembered that she was the Oracle of Light and that her staff was the clocktower's second hand. They rushed over to the tower to place the staff back.

Clocktower Arm

Shirma and Chocobo returned her staff to the clocktower.

The two watched the clock start to move again, and Shirma remarked that time, long since lost, had finally started ticking again in Lostime. Raffaello came over, and Shirma implored him to tell her about what was about to happen to their world and what she could do. Raffaello described what he saw when he was in a cocoon: frightening dreams about people suffering, grieving, and despairing. Raffaello was scared, but had to discover his mission. He opened the door of the clocktower and entered.

Adult Raffaello

Shirma and Cid caught up to Chocobo and an adult Raffaello.

Chocobo entered the clocktower, which held the Shrine of Light, to look for Raffaello. After he defeated Alexander, Shirma and Cid entered the shrine, and found Chocobo and a fully-grown Raffaello with wings at the light crystal. Shirma was barely able to recognize Raffaello, who stated he had finally become what he had always been and flew away. Chocobo, Cid, and Shirma followed him to the top of the clocktower, where he spread out his feathers throughout all of Lostime. As the townspeople joyously thanked Raffaello as a savior, a mysterious figure walked over and warned them not to be fooled: Shirma's older sister Croma. Shirma tearfully reunited with her and Croma's memory jogged back into place as she realized the faded image she was chasing but had not been able to remember was Shirma.

Shirma and Croma Reunite

Shirma and Croma finally reunited.

Croma warned Shirma that the town's memories could not be returned. Raffaello revealed himself to be the Destroyer and the Guardian of the Dark, the Floating Fortress appearing over the town. The Destroyer manifested himself through Raffaello and began tormenting the townspeople by bringing back their frightening memories with his evil feathers. Shirma insisted it was not Raffaello's doing, but someone else who had taken control of him.

Croma challenged Raffaello though Shirma begged her to stop. Croma argued that his guise of an innocent child was part of the plan to throw off suspicion and posited that the Destroyer had orchestrated Chocobo and Cid's arrival to this world. Croma called for all of them to fight Raffaello together. Shirma cried out in hopelessness while Croma pleaded with her to understand, explaining that she herself was to blame for the lives that were taken because she has been powerless to stop the Destroyer. Croma dueled Raffaello who blocked her attacks. When the Destroyer threw his blade at Shirma, Croma rushed to shield her and took the fatal blow.

Shirma witnessing Croma's death

Shirma screamed in devastation at Croma's death.

Shirma let out a terrible scream and the Destroyer absorbed Croma's energy, gaining strength through Shirma's despair. Shirma lost consciousness, and Raffaello flew away to the Shrine of Darkness.

Shirma Oracle Of Light

Shirma sent Chocobo the power from the Light Crystal.

Chocobo and Cid brought Shirma to Stella's house where she remained unconscious. When she awoke, she wanted to help Chocobo in his fight against the Destroyer. Cid escorted her to the clocktower piazza where they interrupted Freja, Meja, and Mayor Gale just as the other two Oracles were about to send their memories to Chocobo. Shirma emphasized that she was the Oracle of Light, that she had been handed Croma's powers, and that she wanted to help Chocobo. She sent Chocobo "the power to repel darkness" from the light crystal utilizing Croma's staff and prayed for Croma to give Chocobo her strength. The three Oracles sent their memories to Chocobo, giving him a great advantage.

Shirma tears of joy

Shirma teared up in happiness upon realizing Croma was finally back.

The six watched the Floating Fortress fall apart and explode. Chocobo survived thanks to being rescued by an airship, and a recovered Shirma ran over to Seaside Park to meet him. Raffaello was no longer possessed by the Destroyer, in his normal teenage self, he had rescued Croma just in time for Chocobo to defeat the Destroyer. Shirma began to tear up, so overjoyed that Croma was back and that their reunion was not a dream. After bearing witness to Mayor Gale's speech, Shirma thanked Chocobo alongside Mayor Gale, Croma, and Raffaello for everything he had done.

Shirma Chocobo converse

Shirma vowed to Chocobo that she would be stronger.

Some time later, Shirma joined Stella, Chocobo, Cid, and Croma at Seaside Park as Raffaello bid his farewells. He wanted to face his destiny and find himself, but Shirma choked up as she said goodbye to him, struggling to cope with the prospect of the boy she loved leaving. After Raffaello departed on the airship, Shirma returned to Stella's farm and talked with Chocobo. Though many painful things had happened, she vowed to go on and emphasized the importance of making more memories. Shirma declared to become stronger, following in Chocobo's example, and that she would do it together with Croma, as they had promised to always be together.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Shiroma Magnolie

Shirma is a young girl who shares similar features to her usual counterpart with a few notable differences, such as having a somewhat older appearance. She has light pink hair with an ahoge, fair skin, and light green eyes. As a White Mage, she wears a white cloak with a hood with pink triangular patterns (as opposed to red that is worn by her main counterpart and most white mages in the Final Fantasy series) held by a brooch in the shape of angel wings with a blue jewel. Underneath she wears a black long-sleeved turtleneck top, matching tights, white shorts with what appears to be a zebra pattern with brown folded ends and a black belt, and brown boots. In her main artwork and opening cutscene, her cloak has red triangular patterns, and in-game, her brooch has white crystals at the wings.

Personality[]

Shirma is a kind-hearted, pure, innocent, and caring girl. She treats the people around her with respect and friendliness, and is especially affectionate towards the people she loves. She loves and respects her Aunt Stella, and is especially close with her sister because of the care and kindness Croma gave her, holding Croma's promise of them always being together dear in her heart.

Shirma from Chocobo's Dungeon

Shirma

Shirma tends to worry, particularly for the people she loves and those who are younger than her, as demonstrated many times with Croma and Raffaello. Shirma tends to see the good in everyone, oftentimes to a fault, as she refused to believe Croma's allegations about Raffaello despite him showing his dark nature. Shirma acts emotional when grieving or when reunited with long lost loved ones.

Shirma is generally happy, but her willingness to believe and love everyone around her, combined with her tendency to worry about them, blinds her to darker realities. At times she is mentally and physically weak, as shown when she was affected by the Bell of Oblivion, and when she was initially unable to pull herself together after tragedy befell Croma, being overcome with grief. Shirma does have a tougher side, shown when she refused Mayor Gale's offer to live in Lostime and argued against his preaching of the so-called "beauty" of forgetting. She is loyal and at times courageous, staying virtuous through troubled times, such as when she fought through her illness to help Chocobo to send him her memories as the Oracle of Light. She believed in Chocobo till the end and fought alongside the other Oracles to help him in his fight at the Floating Fortress.

Shirma values the importance of family and holding on to precious memories, something that made her stand out from the other townspeople. Shirma wants to be stronger, having learned from her experiences leading up to the return of everyone's memories. She acknowledged her weaknesses but chose to follow Chocobo's example.

Abilities[]

As a White Mage, Shirma knows healing magic. She gained the powers of an Oracle from Alexander.

When alongside Chocobo as his Buddy, she supports him with the Cure spell.
