Shamani Lohmani is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is a former member of the Company of Heroes and a famous winemaker.
History[]
Early life[]
Shamani Lohmani was one of the members of the Company of Heroes, and together with the Company, Shamani faced and defeated Titan and Leviathan several times. However in one of the Company's clashes against the Titan, Shamani Lohmani lost his sight and fell into a deep depression. Before the Calamity, commander Lorens suddenly disbanded the Company and sent its members on separate ways, requesting that they continue to uphold the Company's creed, and then the commander disappeared. Shamani was chosen as one of five judges to assess any who sought to repeat the Company's exploits.[2] Due to his depression, Shamani wandered around Vylbrand as a drunken vagabond until the year 3 of the Seventh Umbra Era, when he met a man named Drest who took Shamani in and cared for him. Drest offered Shamani his first taste of Bacchus wine, which helped him find a new calling for his life. Shamani used his accumulated savings from his time as a mercenary to help in the revitalization of the Bacchus wine industry and became a winemaker.[3]
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn[]
Five years after the Calamity, the Kobolds again summoned their primal. In the absence of the Company of Heroes, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn sought out Wheiskaet to abrender information about the Titan. Wheiskaet did not trust that the Scions had the ability to take on the primal and refused to divulge any information before they proved their worth. And to do so, the Warrior of Light should follow the instructions of the former members of the Company to prepare a feast.[4]
To complete the banquet, Wheiskaet asked Warrior of Light to bring a bottle of Shamani Lohmani's best wine and delivers one with the details of the order. Upon meeting Shamani Lohmani, he immediately deduced the situation with his sense of smell alone.[5] Shamani Lohmani suggested looking for a bottle of Bacchus wine. However most of the vineyards for this wine were destroyed in the Calamity and made it a rare wine. Shamani asked Warrior of Light to deliver a bottle of his own original wine to Drest.[3] To express his gratitude to Shamani, Drest prepared three coconuts filled with palm wine. Shamani Lohmani realized that the leaves that Drest used to seal his palm wine coconut shells are Bacchus vines. Shamani then asked Warrior of Light to go back to Drest and ask for more information about them. Once the Warrior of Light returns with vine leaves, Byrglaent confirms Shamani Lohmani's claim, and is shocked by Shamani's decision to give him the cut Bacchus for free. Moved by Shamani Lohmani's simple desire to see the Bacchus vines restored to their former glory, Byrglaent offered a bottle of 1547 Bacchus. Having finally obtained a wine suitable for the banquet, Shamani offers to deliver it to Wheiskaet at Costa del Sol.[6] After the banquet is done, Wheiskaet revealed the banquet was an excuse for his comrades to assess their worthiness to face Titan. The five members of the Company of Heroes agreed that Warrior of Light had the qualities necessary to defeat the Lord of Crags.[7]
Following the rumors that F'lhaminn is alive. The Scions travel to Wineport and consult with Shamani Lohmani. He says he remembers F'lhaminn's perfume, as well as the conversation he had with her. After noting that her scent was reminiscent of a local species of flower, F'lhaminn had asked where she could find more flowers, and Shamani says that he indicated she go south of Raincatcher Gully.[8]
When Landenel decided to abandon his current life to search for his former commander Lorens, Landenel receives an anonymous missive announcing the commander's death. He travels to Costa del Sol and questions Wheiskaet for answers, but the former captain did not know about the contents of the letter. Landenel then makes his way to Shamani in search of advice. Shamani theorizes that after the dissolution of the company, Lorens continued to watch Landenel. And realizing that Landenel was still stuck in the past, he decided to act and he sent the letter anonymously announcing his own death.[2]
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood[]
The Wandering Dramaturge asks the Warrior of Light to get a bottle of rose-themed wine. In Wineport, Shamani Lohmani says that Suhd Viandja Rosé would be a wine that might please the Dramaturge, but he did not have a bottle of it in his cellars. Gegeruju has a bottle of Suhd Viandja Rosé but would only be willing to give it up for a Dalmascan wine. Shamani Lohmani suggested that the Warrior of Light talk to Drest to see if he would have a bottle of the wine from his homeland. But the Warrior of Light can only find an empty bottle of the wine. Hancock, who was visiting Eorzea on business, overheard the conversation. He suggested filling the empty bottle with a red wine from Hingan to say it was a genuine Lea Monde Valens. Though Shamani Lohmani vehemently disapproves, he quite literally turns a blind eye to your brazen act of counterfeiture.[9] Hancock later manages to buy three bottles of Dalmascan red wine from Lens's Tears. Now he has the opportunity to replace the counterfeit bottle with a legitimate one. The exchange is made thanks to the help of Shamani Lohmani, who received one of the bottles as a thanks. Shamani then suggested that the last bottle be given to Drest.[10]
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker[]
Due to the threat of the Final Days in La Noscea, Merlwyb has reunited the members of the Company of Heroes once again and suggests reforming the Company once more to help track down the blasphemy that has appeared in the region, and prevent the Crushing Tide from summoning the Leviathan. With Commander Lorens absent, the members agree to appoint Warrior of Light as the new acting commander.[11]
After defending Candlekeep Quay from a Crushing Tide attack, Shamani and Brayflox Alltalks interrogated the captured sahagin and discovered that Doww, the leader of Crushing Tide, was in hiding on a deserted island in the Cieldalaes. At the location the party encounters the blasphemy and discovers that it originated from the Indigo Matriarch, queen of the Sahagin. The party manages to escape thanks to a shot from Lorens that does not reveal himself.[12] Knowing that Lorens' abilities would be needed, the Warrior of Light meets with him and recruits him back into the Company of Heroes. Eventually, Wheiskaet warns that the blasphemy has been drawn to the Sastasha Seagrot. Warrior of Light, Lorens and Merlwyb set off to confront the beast. In the middle of the fight, members of the Company arrive on the scene and help defeat the Indigo Matriarch. Once everything has been resolved, the Company members are finally reunited with their former commander and the Company of Heroes is dissolved once again.[13]
