Big non-elemental damage on any one opponentDescription
Shadow Flare (シャドウフレア, Shadou Furea?) is an ability commonly associated with the Mix command, but occasionally as a spell under the Blue Magic class of magic. It is essentially an "evil" version of Flare, often of the Dark element.
Since his appearance in the Kingdom Hearts series, the ability has become associated with Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, often being part of his attack arsenal in most spin-off titles. This version of Shadow Flare is known for summoning multiple orbs of darkness to surround enemies, as opposed to being a simple color-swap of the Flare spell.

There is a 40% chance of it being used in Southwest Saronia and Eureka, and a mere 2% chance of it being used in deserts, Altar Cave, Mythril Mine, Sealed Cave, Tozus Tunnel, Cave of the Circle, Ancient Ruins, Ancients' Maze, Doga's Grotto, Cave of Shadows, Bahamut's Lair, Falgabard, forest and land on the world map, Dragon's Peak, Castle Sasune, Bahamut's boss fight, Crystal Tower, Dragon Spire, Castle Hein, Goldor Manor, Tower of Owen (except Floor 1), sky terrain and Molten Cave.
Shadow Flare is an Enemy Skill learned from Dragon Zombie, Safer∙Sephiroth, Ruby Weapon, and Ultimate Weapon. It deals massive non-elemental damage to one enemy and costs 100 MP to cast. Shadow Flare's spell power is equal to 7.8125x the base magic damage. Other than gravity-type attacks, Shadow Flare is the most powerful spell. Shadow Flare is reflectable.
Sephiroth uses Shadow Flare: should he cycle through all the elemental infusions and access a dark version, he can already cast it in the final battle's third phase, though he will only summon a single globe of dark energy. During the final phase Sephiroth can cast Shadow Flare regardless of whether he got the chance to do so earlier, and it releases multiple gravitational globes of darkness.
Shadow Flare is a squadron-exclusive class ability used by most Arcanist units when in dungeon content. When used, the unit will instantly set up an area-of-effect field that deals damage with a potency of 50 and a Sustained Slow of 5% to all targets within the selected location. Enemies that step into the aura will take damage as soon as the next damage "tic" was calculated, or immediately if the spell is cast where they are standing.
From the launch of A Realm Reborn through the entirety of the Stormblood expansion, Shadow Flare was a spell available to the Arcanist class at level 50, as well as its subsequent jobs of Summoner and Scholar. When used by a Scholar, it would automatically be cancelled if the caster would use the Sacred Soil ability. Shadow Flare was removed at the launch of the Shadowbringers expansion.
Shadow Flare is also an enemy ability used by most Ascian bosses. When used, it often deals a moderate unaspected damage attack to the entire player party.
Shadowflare is part of the Keeper's Turning skillset and is the only Turning ability exclusive to him.
Shadow Flare is one of Sephiroth's Bravery attacks where he summons four orbs of darkness that close in on the target. He can use it on the ground initially, and learns to cast it in the air at Level 19. It costs 40 CP to equip and 180 AP to master.
Shadow Flare is one of Sephiroth's Bravery attacks, with longer tracking and increased stun duration. It now costs 30 CP to equip and 80 AP to master.
Shadow Flare is one of Sephiroth's Bravery attacks and can only be performed on the ground. It is a powerful explosion of energy, with an added vacuum effect to draw opponents in before it sets off.
Shadow Flare is the enemy ability that is used by Ultimate Weapon during battle.
Shadow Flare is an unique Soul Break exclusive to Sephiroth, available via the katana One-Winged Angel (VII). At the expense of one Soul Gauge segment it deals physical damage to all enemies equal to 350% damage potency of a conventional attack and has 50% chance to inflict Blind for 60 seconds.

Kingdom Hearts series[edit | edit source]
The effect can be created by mixing:
- Demon Tail + Dragon Fang
Shadow Flare is Sephiroth's Side Special attack that plants the opponent with up to five dark orbs that will briefly revolve around the opponent before closing in and racking up the damage. The fireballs can still harm other fighters and can deal a certain amount of damage before they vanish.
