The Sewer is a location inside the city of Midgar in Final Fantasy VII. It is located underneath Wall Market and connects to the Train Graveyard.
Story
After falling for Don Corneo's trap, Cloud and company are thrust into the sewers, whereupon they are assaulted by Corneo's pet, Aps. After defeating Aps, Tifa loses hope in Sector 7's plate still being intact, but is reassured by Aeris that it is not too late in saving everyone. They find a way out and emerge in the Train Graveyard.
Geography
This sewer is located beneath Sector 6 and Sector 7, and is divided into two segments for each screen. The Sector 6 segment is connected to a trap door from Corneo Hall, and is where Aps resides. At its top-right corner is another trap door down to the Sector 7 segment. This segment is smaller, and leads to a manhole that exits the sewer out to the Train Graveyard's southern portion.
Gameplay
Encounters
Battle background.
The encounters are the same in both segments of the sewer. The player will either encounter Ceasars or Sahagins. Though both enemies have relatively high HP and will take a few hits to defeat, they deal little damage on their own. Magic can be used to end fights more quickly, and Ceasars are weak to Ice.
Items
The Potion is obtained by taking the stairs at the bottom end of the screen and then running to the left, while the Steal Materia is found just before taking the door to the Sector 7 segment.
Quests
In "Prevent the Fall of the Plate", Cloud, Aeris, and Tifa first fight Aps before navigating through the sewers to Sector 7.
Date mechanics
The game has a hidden affection value that determines whom Cloud takes out on a date in Gold Saucer later. The outcome is determined by the dialogue and party member choices made prior to that point.
When the party lands in the sewer:
- Talk to Aeris first (+3 Aeris)
- Talk to Tifa first (+3 Tifa)
Musical themes
The theme "Lurking in the Darkness" (闇に潜む, Yami ni Hisomu?) plays in the sewers.
