A legendary SOLDIER operative known for numerous heroic feats. Though once a popular figure, after learning the nature of his birth and coming into contact with Jenova, he changes drastically, developing an unbridled hatred for the world and everything in it. Acting on behalf of Jenova, he works to lead the planet to ruin.

Description

Sephiroth is a playable character and boss in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia who can be recruited during the Lost Chapter One-Winged Angel.

Profile[edit | edit source]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Sephiroth's appearance is adapted from his Dissidia design, which is based on his appearance (Sephiroth AC CGI artwork.jpg) in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII with some changes to resemble Yoshitaka Amano's artwork of him (AmanoSeph.jpg). His belt is ornate and decorated with beads, he wears a bracelet with similar beads on his right wrist, and his pauldrons have a different design. He wears white and lavender sashes under his coat, both a reference to Amano's design and to his wings (Safer sephirothFFVII.png) as Safer∙Sephiroth‎.

His first alternate costume, "Executioner", is based on his appearance (Sephiroth Final BossFFVII.png) in the final scripted battle in Final Fantasy VII, leaving him shirtless with black pants being colored lighter than the original.

Personality[edit | edit source]

Sephiroth's personality is cold and aloof. He tends to keep to himself, preferring to observe others rather than interact with them. He is knowledgeable about the workings of the world, but prefers to use that knowledge to hold power over others rather than sharing it. He is single-minded in his pursuit of power, taking advantage of others when they are weakened.

Despite his heartlessness, Sephiroth still shows a bit of emotion, namely amusement at the weakness and confusion of the heroes, and boredom after fighting them.

In this world, he more readily uses the powers of Jenova, who he still refers to as "Mother," to achieve his goals, actively creating clones of other characters and using their memories to confuse and divide the heroes. His goal is similar to that of Advent Children, in that he wishes to use the world as an ark to travel the stars, with himself at the helm. He claims that he was not summoned by either Materia or Spiritus to that world, but instead sought it out himself. He still views humans as parasites, nothing more than memories to return to the Planet.

Story[edit | edit source]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)
Act 1

Sephiroth first appears in Domina Wastelands. Kuja hints at his appearance by saying "the one who possesses the call of chaos is nearby. He's quite the spectacle─a man with long silver hair, wielding a long, curved blade." Cloud finds Sephiroth and challenges him. Sephiroth seems unperturbed by the fight, and hints that while his power grows, it's not enough.

Lost Chapter - One Winged Angel

The chapter begins with Cloud cornering Sephiroth. Cloud's friends come to help, but a Manikin of Sephiroth appears, and Sephiroth decides to battle his Manikin with Cloud, which surprises the group. After the battle, Sephiroth appears amused by the group's trust in Mog, implying that the Moogle may be manipulating the group by withholding information about the characters' missing memories. He gives Mog his dimensional coordinates, allowing the team to use his power to assist them. Sephiroth joins Kefka, Kuja, and Seymour, dismissing Kefka's attempts at small talk. The four discuss the group's trust in Mog, and Sephiroth dismisses their sympathy and forgiveness as "lies that pitiful humans cling to for survival."

Act 2

Sephiroth appears in Respite's Authenticity. He appears with his name as ??? and some of his dialogue is marked with << >>, implying he is having a conversation, possibly with Jenova, who says "<<The seat of the gods will become my new promised land. >>" Vayne overhears the last of this conversation and realizes Sephiroth's plan to take the goddess Materia's throne and become a god. Vayne warns Ignis of Sephiroth's plans: "Being ruled by someone who seeks to be a hero by slaying the gods is perhaps an even worse fate [than the current situation]." Sephiroth uses a clone of Zack to slay Materia and take the throne. Lusting for even more power, Sephiroth creates multiple clones of Zack, who have wills of their own but are easily controlled by Sephiroth. While disguised, the player can distinguish them from the real versions as their dialogue is denoted by the same << >> symbols as earlier. Cloud and the others defeat these clones, and Cloud explains how Jenova can create convincing clones using the memories and emotional attachments of others. Defeating the clones of Zack restores the missing memories of the real Zack. After attempting to fight Sephiroth, Ignis realizes that by taking Materia's place, Sephiroth made himself an integral part of that world: "If we lose, this world will be consumed, and if we win, his place on the throne will only be the firmer." The group retreats to fight Sephiroth elsewhere.

Spiritus interferes in the fight and tries to banish Sephiroth to the rift in space and time, but it doesn't work. Sephiroth instead flees, leaving the throne empty. Spiritus reveals Materia to be alive, but extremely weakened.
