FFTA2 Self-Destruct

Self-Destruct in Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.

Self-destruct, inflicting damage in the surrounding area.

Self-Destruct (自爆 or じばく, Jibaku?), also known as Exploder, Kamikaze, Blowup, or Explode, is an enemy ability and a common a Blue Magic spell. It typically KOs the caster while doing large damage (sometimes fire-elemental) to opponents. It is commonly used by Bombs and their ilk. Enemies that self-destruct usually yield no Experience Points, gil, or item drops.

Appearances

Final Fantasy II

Bomb-types use the Self-Destruct attack to deal massive non-elemental damage to one player, and in turn KO'ing itself. It fails when the enemy is at full HP.

The Damage calculation is:

(RandomNumber[20..40] * Level of Ability ) - Defense of Target

For example, if a Balloon uses Self-Destruct 1, a character with 40 Defense would completely negate the damage done from its attack.

Final Fantasy III

Bomb-type enemies use Self-Destruct whenever they are not at max HP, damaging one party member equal to 4x their HP when they use the ability.

In the 3D versions, if a Black Belt uses Boost for three consecutive turns, on the third use it triggers Self-Destruct. This version of Self-Destruct removes the attack boost of Boost, and causes damage equal to half the user's max HP.

Final Fantasy IV

Bomb-type enemies, Armored Fiends, and Barnabas use Self Destruct when low on health, or in response to magic. Rydia can also learn the Bomb summon, which does damage to an enemy based on her current HP.

Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-

Bomb-type enemies use Self Destruct when low on health, or if left alone for long periods of time. The imposter Rydia can also learn the Bomb summon, which does damage to an enemy based on her current HP.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

Self-Destruct is summon ability that deals damage to an enemy based on Rydia's current HP.

Self-Destruct is also an enemy ability that deals medium-high fire-elemental damage.

Final Fantasy V

Sacrifices caster to deal massive damage to one enemy.

Description

Self-Destruct is a Blue Magic spell learned from Azulmagia, Motor Trap, Bomb, Purobolos, Grenade, Gilgamesh, or from Prototype or Unknown #171 by controlling either with a Beastmaster. The attack KO's on the user to inflict non-elemental piercing damage to one target equal to the user's current HP. It costs 1 MP to cast. Gilgamesh is the only one known to have survived this spell.

The player may utilize this ability by catching and releasing a Bomb.

Final Fantasy VI

Deals damage to an enemy at the cost of the caster's own life.

Description

Strago can learn Self-Destruct as a Lore that costs 1 MP to cast. It will deal damage equal to Strago's current HP when used. Self- Destruct can be learned from Balloon, Bandit, Bomb, Dark Force, Grenade, Junk, Onion Knight, Gamma or Wartpuck.

Final Fantasy VII

Self-Destruct is an enemy ability used by 2-Faced, which kills the user to deal damage to one target equal to 75% of their current HP. Suicide is a similar ability, used by Vargid Police, which also kills the user to deal damage to one target equal to 18.75% of the target's current HP at the cost of 10 MP.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Self-Destruct from FFVII Remake

Self-Destruct is an ability learned on the Enemy Skill Materia Enemy Skill Materia from Varghidpolis, Trypapolis, Bomb, or Smogger. It deals large damage in a range but kills the user. Self-Destruct can be used to deliberately trigger a summon's final attack or instantly fill the limit gauge. With a setup of linking Enemy Skill materia with HP Absorption Materia HP Absorption Materia, as well as Subversion Materia Subversion Materia with Warding Materia Warding Materia, it can be survived.

Final Fantasy VIII

Damage one enemy before getting KO'd

Kamikaze description

The Kamikaze command can be junctioned to a party member. It is initially learned by the Cactuar GF, but can be taught to any GF via the Bomb Spirit item. Kamikaze is one of the most powerful attacks, with the ability to reach 60,000 points of damage at the cost of losing the character. The amount of damage done is equal to the character's max HP multiplied by five, although the attack can be a critical hit. Any GF junctioned to the user that is removed from the battle due to this ability will still receive EXP and AP.

The Bomb enemy uses the Suicide attack after it has used Grow three times, and deals non-elemental damage to one party member.

Final Fantasy IX

Blowup is a spell used by the Bomb enemy during the battle aboard the Prima Vista with Steiner. When the Bomb uses Self-Destruct, it blows up and deals damage to Steiner, ending the battle. The incarnation of the Bomb fought later as a regular random encounter does not have this ability.

Final Fantasy X

Kimahri can learn Self-Destruct as a Ronso Rage Overdrive from Bomb, Grenade, Puroboros and Biran Ronso. It inflicts damage on one enemy equal to three times Kimahri's maximum HP causing Eject afterwards (Kimahri is removed from the battle and cannot be revived or replaced, nor earn AP/EXP). Therefore, if the rest of party members are KO'd, the Game Over screen will show up when Kimahri uses Self-Destruct, even if the defeated target was the last enemy alive.

Self-Destruct is also an enemy ability used by Bomb, Grenade, Puroboros, and Splasher, and Magic Urn.

Final Fantasy X-2

Sacrifice life to heavily damage one enemy.

"Help" description

There is no ability called Self-Destruct, although similar abilities exist. Crackaboom!, Kaboom! and Kercrackaboom! are used by Bomb enemies. Hug Bug is used by Vermin enemies. These abilities KO the caster and no EXP, gil, and items are awarded after defeating that enemy.

The Dark Knight dressphere ability Charon acts in a similar fashion, sacrificing the user to inflict unblockable special damage to one target, though the user cannot be used for the remainder of the battle. It requires 20 AP to learn.

In the International + Last Mission and HD Remaster versions, the Bomb species fiends can use Charon when they are recruited into the party. The Creeper, Hug Bug, and Hexapod can also learn Charon after surviving a powerful move like Meteor or Ultima.

Final Fantasy XI

Self-Destruct is a Blue Magic spell learned from Bombs for the Blue Mage (level 50). It sacrifices HP to damage enemies within range and affects the caster with Weakness. It costs 3 Blue Magic points to set. When set, it grants STR +2. It takes 3.25 seconds and can be recast every 21 seconds.

Self-Destruct is also an enemy ability used by the Bomb family and Cluster family. When used by Bombs, it sacrifices HP to damage enemies within range. When used by Clusters, it detonates one, or all, of its bombs, inflicting fire damage.

Final Fantasy XII

Self-Destruct is an enemy ability used by Bomb and Facer-type enemies. Kamikaze is used by Vulture-type enemies. When one Bomb self-destructs it sets a chain reaction where all nearby Bombs explode as well.

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

Self-Destruct is used by Bombs, King Bombs, and Mom Bombs. When one Bomb explodes, it sets up a chain reaction where all the nearby Bombs explode as well.

Final Fantasy XIII

Self-Destruct is used by Bombs, Circuitrons, and Cryohedrons at any time, although never as their first move, and the higher the monster's health, the higher the damage. Self-Destruct sets up a chain reaction where all nearby Bombs explode as well.

Final Fantasy XIII-2

Self-Destruct is an enemy ability that deals damage based on HP. It is used by Bomb, Circuitron, Cloudburst, Cryohedron, Debris, Grenade, and Tempest.

Final Fantasy XIV

Self-Destruct is an ability occasionally used by bomb enemies. It has a larger area-of-effect radius indicator than more common "Detonator" skill. A number of other enemies have similar self-destruct methods, in some encounters after moving to the a central location on a set path. The Blue Mage Limited Job can learn Self-Destruct from enemies, though using this instantly KOs the player while dealing massive fire damage to all surrounding enemies. As of the 5.15 update, Self Destruct now inflicts Brush of Death to the user upon KO, rendering the skill unusable for several minutes.

Final Fantasy XV

Enemy abilities are not named, but bomb-type enemies, skeletons and some magitek troopers self-destruct to damage the player. Bomb-type enemies grow when not being attacked, and explode at their peak, setting off a chain reaction with nearby bombs. Skeletons latch into the player and trigger a QTE prompt, and explode; the player needs to break away in time. Shock troopers can detonate and the player can set them off in Chapter 11 aboard imperial assault craft to down them.

Final Fantasy Tactics

Bombs, Grenades and Exploders can Self-Destruct, which also adds Oil status.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Self-KO. Deals massive damage to nearby enemies.

Description

Etymology

The attack has also been known by the name Kamikaze. The word kamikaze was used during World War II for Japanese suicide bombers, and means "divine wind". The original kamikaze was when the Mongols sent an invasion force to Japan, but both times the Mongols tried to invade, a typhoon destroyed the Mongol fleet. The Japanese named this wind, kamikaze.

The self-destruct mechanism is usually the most complete way to destroy the object. For that reason the self-destruct mechanism can be used to destroy objects that are meant to be discarded.
