Seiryu (青龍(せいりゅう), Seiryū?, lit. Azure Dragon), also known as Sei-Ryu, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series. One of the Four Symbols, it is a powerful dragon or serpent creature.

Wyvern 2 (FFXI)

Seiryu is a notorious monster of the wyvern family. He is one of the Shijin encountered in Ru'Aun Gardens. Defeating it rewards the Seal of Seiryu, which when combined with the seals of the other Shijin allows players to summon Kirin in the Shrine of Ru'Avitau. Kirin will summon a weaker version of Seiryu during its encounter.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Seiryu is one of the Four Lords, auspices of great power that serve as guardians of the Ruby Sea. The Warrior of Light must battle Seiryu in The Wreath of Snakes The Wreath of Snakes in order to quell his aramitama that he and the rest of the Four Lords can renew the seal on the fallen auspice Koryu.

Sei-Ryu is one of the Four Fiends that serve Asura. He rules over the world of 5th floor, keeping the blue orb hidden. He is first fought within the crystal orb room of the Undersea Castle and is later revived by the Creator within the final levels of the Tower.

Seiryu is an Eidolon who chose to live in the human world in the land of Ajima to defend humanity. A younger Eidolon, he serves as the loyal bodyguard of Suzaku and as the Holy Beast of the east. Together with Suzaku, Byakko, and Genbu, they make up the "Four Holy Beast" Eidolons.

Etymology[]

The Azure Dragon is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. According to Wu Xing, the Taoist five-elemental system, it represents the wood-element, represents the east, and the spring season. Thus it is sometimes called the Azure Dragon of the East. It is known as Qing Long in Chinese, Seiryū in Japanese, Cheongnyong in Korean, and Thanh Long in Vietnamese.
