Sedate (悲しい, Kanashii?), also known as Sadness, is a recurring status effect in the Final Fantasy VII series that causes the afflicted to take less damage, but their Limit gauge fills slower.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy VII[]
Sadness is a status that causes the character to take 30% less damage from physical and magical attacks, but also halves the rate the Limit gauge fills. The effect can be positive or negative, depending on the party's situation. Sadness is the opposite of Fury. When a character is under Sadness status, their Limit bar is blue, rather than the normal pink color.
This status is healed by Hyper, Remedy, Esuna, Aeris's Breath of the Earth Limit Break, or negated by the Fury ability. Sadness is inflicted by using a Tranquilizer or through an enemy attack. Hypers and Tranquilizers can be bought in shops all around the world.
Final Fantasy VII Remake[]
Sedate reduces a character's limit gauge buildup, but causes them to take 10% less damage.[1] It is opposed to Fury, overwriting an existing Fury status, and vice versa.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth[]
Sedate reduces a character's limit gauge buildup, but causes them to take 10% less damage. It is opposed to Fury, overwriting an existing Fury status, and vice versa. Sedate is cured with Esuna, Adrenaline, and Remedy, and resisted with Resist and Ribbon.
