Sector 1 is a location in the Final Fantasy VII series. One of the eight sectors that divides the metropolis of Midgar, the sector is visited briefly throughout the series.

The sector is the first location visited in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake, specifically for Mako Reactor 1. Cloud Strife and Avalanche enter the reactor area on the train before entering the reactor's utility access. The Sector 1 Station is also visited by Zack Fair in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, serving as the link zone between Sector 8 and the Sector 5 slums.

History[]

Sector1

Sector 1 Station in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-.

The sector's mako reactor, Mako Reactor 1, was complete around 1972-73 the third and fourth year of the construction of Midgar, around the same time the perimeter of Midgar had finished construction.[1] Sector 1 was the first sector of Midgar that was built, and as such, the undercity town below it is the oldest.[2]

In the Prologue in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, Zack Fair's training in the Virtual Reality System begins with him taking Train MK 93 II as it is re-routed to the Sector 1 Station near Mako Reactor 1.[3] Later, Zack Fair frequently used the Sector 1 Station to travel by train between Sector 8 and the Sector 5 slums.

In Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake, Barret Wallace' Avalanche cell attacked Mako Reactor 1. After accomplishing their mission, the reactor's destruction caused multiple explosions and ongoing fires, and Shinra Emergency Operations Center issued a disaster warning throughout Sector 1 and Sector 8.[4]

Geography[]

Little is known about Sector 1 aside from the Sector 1 Station and Mako Reactor 1. As such, it can be presumed that, as with other topside sectors generally, that it is a residential district for the middle and upper classes of Midgar, with a high standard of living, and a carefully managed population with balanced age demographics (in contrast to the overcrowded slums below).[5]

Gameplay[]

Final Fantasy VII[]

The Sector 1 field is the first area visited in Final Fantasy VII, for the first quest, "No. 1 Reactor Bombing." Cloud fights a few MP enemies, meets up with AVALANCHE, and then enters the No. 1 Reactor field.

Final Fantasy VII Remake[]

In Final Fantasy VII Remake, the Mako Reactor 1 is visited. In contrast to the original game, the area outside the reactor grounds, and the North Edge Station leading to the reactor, is labeled as part of the Mako Reactor 1 field.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII[]

Sector 1 - Station.

The Sector 1 Station is visited. This is a small area that comprises only a straight forward run. On the far south of the area, a door to the east can take the player to the Sector 8 - Fountain area. At the north the player can board the train and it will take the player to the Sector 5 Slums - Market area.
