Waking of the Lion - Chapter 1[]
In "United Front", the party finds themselves at the borders of Hourne, discovering soldiers guarding a carriage. Prince Mont, King Oelde and Lilyth wonder why Hourne soldiers would be in Leonis territory, but surmise a situation forced them there. Oelde seizes the opportunity to gain Hourne's favor by assisting the retinue, but Schuzelt threatens to cut them all down. Lilyth steps in speak with him. After a heated argument, Lilyth and Schuzelt are ready to cut each other down until Princess Machérie tells them to stop. Oelde greets her, with Mont remembering her reputation as the Beautiful Steel Maiden. Machérie apologizes for encroaching on Leonis territory, with Oelde telling her that they are his honored guests. Oelde tells Mont not to embarrass himself in front of Machérie, who wonders where she has heard Mont's name before. The party readies against Hourne's bandit interlopers.
In "Do As the Lions Do", the party continues to fight the bandits, Lilyth predicting a foreign power may be pulling the strings. Schuzelt suggests it is Wezette with Mont agreeing, but Oelde warns him to watch his words as Wezette and Leonis are on friendly terms. Machérie says it doesn't matter where they're from. Oelde calls for a retreat into the forest, but Schuzelt worries over Machérie. Oelde tells Mont to guard her and Machérie recalls Mont is a prince of Leonis with a reputation as a temperamental, yet skilled swordsman. Schuzelt corrects that Machérie is thinking of Prince Sterne, and Machérie states how the royal twins just like a moogle and a malboro.
In "Proof of Trust", more reinforcements arrive, with Machérie believing they won't give up until they've eliminated her. Schuzelt is concerned with Oelde urging Mont to use the ring. Mont summons visions to eliminate the bandits, Schuzelt wondering where all of the soldiers came from. Machérie deduces the ring is how Leonis has maintained its independence. Oelde only showed it to Machérie as a proof of their trust, making Machérie uncomfortable. Lilyth arrives to report more reinforcements arriving, with Oelde ordering them to retreat further back.
In "Amongst the Ruins", the group retreats to a ruined evacuated village. The reinforcements follow them, Mont surprised they just won't quit. Following a battle, Learte reports to Oelde that the bandits are gathering in the forest at thrice the numbers of their own. Oelde deduces that a greater power is in play, with Schuzelt wondering who that may be. Oelde asks if Machérie knows who's chasing her, to which Machérie states that she has too many enemies.
In "Show me Strength", the party moves on Oelde asking why Machérie would trespass into Leonis territory instead of sending word prior. She explains she was en route to Fennes, an enemy territory to Leonis, to marry Muraga. Mont asks why they crossed into Leonis if they were headed for Fennes. Schuzelt explains their coachman chose to go through Leonis as it was the area least littered with monsters. Mont retorts that it's a little convenient how bandits arrived to attack them, but Schuzelt denies that it was Hourne's doing. More enemy reinforcements are arriving, Mont calling for a retreat. Machérie can't abide as she doesn't like weak men. Mont is surprised with Oelde stating Machérie has grown a liking to Mont. Schuzelt is surprised by Machérie's reaction, while she tells Mont to show her his strength.
In "Ancient Relic", the group fights its way into the forest but become surrounded. Baelo complains that they could be eating right now had they retreated earlier, to which Schuzelt retorts that they should just spit out what they're trying to say. Mont takes the blame but Lilyth tells Mont it's just bad luck that they were surrounded. Machérie gives her necklace to Mont, an ancient relic similar to Leonis's ring intended as a dowry for Muraga. Machérie urges Mont to use it, who summons Ifrit to decimate the enemy forces with Hellfire. Machérie is impressed Mont was able to wield the necklace effectively for a first-timer. More reinforcements are coming, with Machérie urging Mont to strike them down.
In "The Way of Hourne", the enemy reinforcements pursue the party as they make their way through the forest. Mont is exhausted, Oelde confirming they need to retreat to ensure the princess's safety. Machérie steps into the battlefield and takes out her staff to engage the enemy, calling Schuzelt to arms. Mont is shocked Machérie is joining the fray.
In "Prove Your Worth", the group is surrounded by the enemy, but Machérie and Schuzelt eliminate the bandits with ease, Machérie commenting on how Schuzelt has improved and Schuzelt mentioning that they could use Machérie in Solidus. The bandit leader shows his face, and Oelde commands Mont to attack. The bandits retreat calling the party inhuman. Lilyth tries to give chase but Machérie is tired and wants to go to Leonis Castle. Oelde agrees to retreat back to the kingdom and a warm hearth. From the shadows, a lone shinobi mutters that they should enjoy their victory while it lasts.
Scene 2 - King of the Savages[]
In "To the Lion's Den", Schuzelt mentions that Fennes territory lies north of their current location. Oelde wonders if the hospitality offered by Leonis wasn't enough, with Schuzelt expressing his regret and gratitude. Leonis and Fennes are still at odds and if Machérie weds Muraga, it would doom Hourne to a hostile relationship with Leonis. Oelde and Schuzelt draw their swords as monsters appear. After the battle, Schuzelt asks Oelde if he can trust him, with Lilyth insulted by his insinuation that he cannot trust the man who just saved him. Schuzelt proclaims his duty is to escort Machérie to Fennes and would gladly suffer to ensure his success. Machérie has had enough and refuses to set foot into Fennes. Schuzelt asks about her engagement and Machérie notes that the timing of the raids on their retinue are suspicious. Schuzelt relents.
In "The Savage King's Daughter", the group makes its way to Leonis Castle, Mont observing the alliance between Hourne and Fennes will endure much hardship if Machérie refuses the wedding. Schuzelt scoffs that their alliance isn't so fragile, as it has not even been a fortnight since Prince Dario has wedded Muraga's daughter, Vinera, the princess of Fennes. Oelde has never heard Muraga having a daughter, shocking Schuzelt as Machérie speculates on the subject. Schuzelt tells Machérie to cease with the speculation, as Vinera is already in Hourne.
In "All the Happiness in the World", Schuzelt keeps thinking about Muraga's daughter, but sees no reason for Muraga to deceive them. Machérie notes that deception means betrayal while Schuzelt ponders who is orchestrating this plot. Schuzelt points out that although Oelde insisted that Muraga had hired the bandits, why would Muraga attempt to take Machérie hostage when she was already coming to Fennes. Machérie agrees and does not wish to return to Hourne. Though she is uncertain of King Oelde, Mont doesn't strike her as the villainous type. Schuzelt hesitates with Machérie apologizing for the entire situation. Schuzelt says Machérie is too kind, and she wants him to promise to make it home regardless of what happens as his wedding is in three days. She bids Naiah and Schuzelt all the happiness in the world.
In "Afoul of the Gods", the group arrives at Leonis Castle, with Machérie being amazed at the structure. A messenger arrives with a message that Fennes has branded Leonis as Machérie's abductors and war is about to commence. When Prince Sterne wants to be deployed, Schuzelt explains to Machérie that Sterne's swordsmanship surpasses even the king's, but is never deployed in wars involving foreign nations. Oelde commands Sterne to keep watch at the castle with Kitone to watch over him as Leonis's bloodline must live on. Sterne is disgruntled but Oelde calls for Leonis to begin their march.
In "Volition", Mont and Oelde arrive by chocobo on the battlefield. Mont observes the war will take all that Leonis can muster. Machérie joins them in the battlefield, promising that she can take care of herself. Schuzelt begs Mont's pardon as Machérie insinuates that she should accompany Mont. Mont is puzzled by what she means.
In "What You Should Fear", Mont is concerned with Hourne and Fennes's alliance. He iterates that they will be battling Hourne as well. Machérie asks if their intention was to imprison her in Leonis Castle. Mont retorts that they wouldn't, and Schuzelt tells them that he and Machérie will be the deciding factors in this war, as the only alternative winning is death. Machérie implies that that nothing is forbidden nor cowardly in war, proclaiming that one should not be afraid of dying, only others dying for one's sake.
In "Wavering Spirit", Machérie and Schuzelt observe the battle from a top a cliff, Schuzelt mentioning that although the numbers of Leonis are small, they fight as if they easily take to war. The land proves advantageous for Leonis, especially with the precision the soldiers are commanded. Machérie notes Mont's potential if he continued to grow at the current rate. Schuzelt insinuates Mont could be a threat and asks Machérie to give him the order to wander into the battle and behead Mont. Machérie refrains him much to Schuzelt's surprise. Machérie asks Schuzelt if he really believes Hourne has an alliance with Fennes. Schuzelt believes it to be so, as Muraga's daughter has already been married to Prince Dario, and soon Machérie shall be wed to Muraga. Oelde's words regarding Vinera plague Machérie's mind, but Schuzelt believes Oelde must be mistaken in claiming that Muraga has no daughter. He notes that Machérie watches Mont, who laments that King Robb would have benefited from such skill with the blade, to which Schuzelt retorts that it is because of a threat to the west of Hourne.
In "Radiant Light", it is night on the battlefield as Lilyth and Mont believe they now have the advantage due to knowing the lay of the land. Mont becomes surrounded by the Fennes army. From a distance, Machérie urges Mont to use the necklace and he summons Ifrit, eliminating the enemies. Schuzelt comments that they made it just in time to save Mont. Schuzelt thinks that Mont's first impression is that of a prince raised in the lap of luxury, but his impression has changed over time, given Mont's display of courage. He finds Mont's heart radiant. Machérie comments that his light could summon the dawn of a new day or be lost to the darkness of war. Machérie hopes she'll get the opportunity to see what fate has in store for Mont.

- Vow of Love
They were but children on the day they met, when young Schuzelt burst into Naiah's room unexpectedly holding a stray kitten that was to be put down by an irate sanitations officer. At the time, Naiah was little more than a taciturn homebody, but hearing Schuzelt talk of the world sparked in her a curiosity that eventually led the two of them on walks through the town. Naiah learned the ways of the white mage to be of aid to Schuzelt, and together they were quite successful in vanquishing monsters.
