Ooooh... what a treat... what a treat to be the one to send you to your graves! Perish knowing it was Scarmiglione who fed your corpses to the earth!

Scarmiglione

Scarmiglione is a boss in the Dawn of Souls and many succeeding versions of the original Final Fantasy, bar the Android version or Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. The party finds him on the north side of the fifth level of the Hellfire Chasm, and must defeat either him or Cagnazzo to continue through the dungeon. Like his appearance in Final Fantasy IV, he has two forms, the second being stronger than the first. His battle sprites are identical to that of his incarnation in Final Fantasy IV.

Strategy[]

First form[]

FFI PSP Poison Gas

Poison Gas (PSP).

Scarmiglione's first form is relatively weak. He will only use Thunder. Scarmiglione's Thunder has double the power of the normal version of the spell. The player may want to cast NulShock to protect against this, but should not waste more MP than necessary. The party should be at optimal HP and MP levels when they combat his second form, and no buffs, such as Haste, will carry over to the second battle. When Scarmiglione falls, he will taunt the party and reveal his true form.

Second form[]

You've given me a fine death! Fine indeed! And only in death you'll know the true terror of Scarmiglione!

Scarmiglione

Scarmiglione's second manifestation can be a challenge. He comes with a 3,000 HP boost and the dreadful Poison Gas attack, which can do over 400 damage to the party. He does this often, and the player should remedy it immediately with Healaga. Applying Haste, Temper, and Saber is important, as physical attackers are more effective against Scarmiglione than magic. Since he is undead, Fire and Dia spells will hit his weak spot, but because of his high Magic Resistance, will usually not inflict more than 500 damage.

Etymology[]

Scarmiglione is a demon in the Inferno of Dante's Divine Comedy. He is one of the 12 Malebranche ("Evil Claws") who guard Bolgia Five of the eighth circle of Hell, Malebolge. Vulgar and quarrelsome, their duty is to force the corrupt politicians to stay under the surface of a boiling lake of pitch.

His name means "Trouble Maker".
