Sazh is a downloadable content playable character in Final Fantasy XIII-2. He appears in his own DLC episode, "Sazh's Story: Heads or Tails?", where the player can play various minigames as him. Completing his episode earns him as a Paradigm Pack Synergist to use in the base game alongside Serah and Noel.
DLC episode[]
Sazh finds himself in Serendipity where he must play various minigames to win Fortune Medals and can receive bonus medals by winning consecutively. Two card games are available: Poker, specifically Texas Hold 'Em; and Chronobind, an original game. Slot machines are also available, but Fortune Medals cannot be earned using them. The episode's story concludes once 30 Fortune Medals are given to the casino's owner.
There is also a sidequest wherein Sazh can encounter Chocolina who promises to reveal her identity if he finds the lost chocobo chicks scattered around Serendipity.
Completing the episode removes 30 Fortune Medals from the inventory. Locking the Serendipity -??? AF- gate in the Historia Crux will reset "Heads or Tails", allowing the player to re-obtain Sazh's monster crystal if he has been infused into another monster.
Paradigm Pack[]
Sazh appears as downloadable content in the form of a "recruitable monster" who joins Serah and Noel after completing his downloadable episode. He wields dual pistols in battle, being a ranged fighter, and combines them into one for a finishing attack.
Sazh joins the party as Synergist and can learn most of the spells available from the Crystarium. If given Potent or Vitality materials, his HP can exceed 9,000, making him a useful addition to the Paradigm Pack. An all-Mana build is good as well. His Feral Link is Cold Blood, his full ATB skill in Final Fantasy XIII, and functions the same by raining down 17 bullets onto the enemies. It is like Ravager Lightning's Army of One in that it is excellent for driving up an opponent's post-stagger chain gauge. Cold Blood's damage is calculated by Sazh's Strength, so it doesn't inflict much damage.
From Crystarium expansions, he can obtain up to two additional ATB Segments or SYN Bonus Boost (II).
By infusing him with all Synergist spell variations, Sazh can become a competent all-around Synergist due to his fast casting speed. While it is impossible to prioritize particular buffs, the player can switch Sazh out for another monster so that the rest of the Paradigm Pack benefits from his Auto: Buffs.
