Cloud and Red XIII channel their burning anger as they tear into an enemy.
Effect: Limit Level Increase

Description in the folio

Savage Assault is a synergy ability in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, used by Red XIII with Cloud Strife as a synergy partner. It costs three synergy charges each, deals magic damage to a foe with a wide area-of-effect around them, and boosts their limit level by 1, giving them new possible limit breaks. This can be boosted up to a limit level of 3 once this is unlocked from their folio.

In the ability's animation, Cloud swings his sword to slash an opponent, while Red XIII claws it repeatedly, in a flurry of moves culminating in an explosion.

Obtained[]

Savage Assault is unlocked on Cloud's folio, and costs 10 SP. It is available at party level 2.

Use[]

Savage Assault costs three synergy charges each on first use, and four on subsequent uses, and will boost Cloud and Yuffie's limit level by 1 until they are KO'd in battle. At limit level 2, Red XIII's limit break is Howling Moon, while Cloud's is Ascension. At level 3, Red XIII's is Wrath of the Land, while Cloud's limit break is Finishing Touch. Red XIII and Cloud both benefit from increasing their limit level, making the ability useful for them.

Both Cloud and Red XIII also have other partner combinations to boost their limit level. Red XIII can use Overfang with Barret Wallace, Bestial Barrage with Tifa Lockhart, Planetary Roar with Aerith Gainsborough, or Hack and Slash with Yuffie Kisaragi. Cloud can use Partners in Pain with Barret, Firework Blade with Aerith, Maelstrom Strike with Yuffie, or SOLDIER Moogle Class with Cait Sith.

Red XIII's higher-level limit breaks do deal more damage, but also have different strategic uses. His level 1 limit break, Bloodfang, deals damage while healing him, while Howling Moon grants him a longer Vengeance Mode, during which he can use Siphon Fang and also heal himself while attacking. His level 3 Wrath of the Land limit break simply deals damage to all enemies.

For Cloud, increasing his limit level simply gives him stronger attacks. In lengthy battles, the extra damage from these abilities can be beneficial, especially if a foe is staggered or otherwise vulnerable. As Cloud's limit levels all deal physical damage, their usefulness will depend on how the player builds him; they are strong even if Cloud is built toward durability or magic damage but not a priority to boost his limit level, while if built toward maximum Attack Power Attack Power, it is ideal to level them as soon as possible. As such, it is beneficial to have access to all of these during battle, although less of a priority than for Red XIII.

If Expeditionary Medal Expeditionary Medal is equipped on either party member, they will start at limit level 2, meaning Savage Assault can only boost their level up to 3. If Enhanced Expeditionary Medal Enhanced Expeditionary Medal is equipped, they will start at limit level 3, meaning Savage Assault will have no effect on them; as such, the ability should only be used to boost the other's limit level, or for the damage output. Other accessories (namely Silver Brawler's Gloves Silver Brawler's Gloves, Golden Brawler's Gloves Golden Brawler's Gloves, Draconic Ring Draconic Ring, Enhanced Draconic Ring Enhanced Draconic Ring, Limit Booster Limit Booster, Transference Module Transference Module, Gi Warrior's Charm Gi Warrior's Charm, and Gotterdammerung Gotterdammerung) and Limit Support Materia Limit Support Materia can also raise the rate limit gauges increase in battle, allowing them to use their limit breaks more regularly and get more from boosting the limit level.
