Ah, I neglected to mention... When I first heard the rumors that the contest involved the golden city, I spoke in confidence with Gulool Ja Ja's inner circle. They all agreed on one thing... Whoever reaches the city of gold will attain a power so great it can dictate the course of history. If this power truly exists, then I humbly beg a fair share of it.

Sareel Ja's motivations explained to Zoraal Ja

Sareel Ja is a character from Final Fantasy XIV, introduced in the expansion Dawntrail. He is Tuliyollal's palace seer who accompanies the First Promise Zoraal Ja during the rite of succession, though in large part intrigued to seek out the city of gold.

History[]

Twenty years ago, Sareel Ja wrote a letter dictated by Dawnservant Gulool Ja Ja to Galuf Baldesion to study the golden city. Sareel Ja himself did not take part in the expedition, but became intrigued by the city.

During the rite of succession, Sareel Ja chose to support Zoraal Ja, the First Promise and trueborn son of the Dawnservant. However, his ulterior motive was to gain access to the golden city and its secrets. When Zoraal Ja knocked down Bakool Ja Ja after he tried to steal his artisan for the Moblins, Sareel Ja advised him to let Bakool Ja Ja live, as he could yet serve a purpose. This eventually led Bakool Ja Ja to kidnap Wuk Lamat.

When Bakool Ja Ja released Valigarmanda from its icy prison, Sareel Ja advised Zoraal Ja to leave the beast and instead continue to the next feat of the rite. Against his advice, Zoraal Ja decided to challenge the tural vidraal.

In Yak T'el, Sareel Ja presented Zoraal Ja's and Bakool Ja Ja's take on xibruq pibil, but as it missed a key ingredient, they failed, despite Sareel Ja's protests. Even after Zoraal Ja was disqualified from the rite by Zereel Ja, he still supported him.

After the rite concluded on Wuk Lamat's victory, Sareel Ja and Zoraal Ja ambushed Ketenramm and stole keystones that he had to gain access to the golden city gate in Skydeep Cenote. When they discovered the gate, Sareel Ja heard a voice from the other side, who promised them power in exchange for opening the door. Sareel Ja had stolen an artifact from Tuliyollal palace, which Gulool Ja Ja had brought there for safekeeping twenty years ago, believing the artifact held significance to the golden city. When Sareel Ja was finally about to achieve his ambition, Zoraal Ja coldly attacked him, calling him a useless tool, like he had told Zoraal Ja back in Earthenshire.

Unknown to Zoraal Ja, Sareel Ja did not die; he managed to crawl into a portal, which caused him to fall into a rift between worlds. Here, he bore visions of a world called Vana'diel, and after acquiring electrope within, he was able to create shadows of beings from that world. Using this, he utilized a similar way of summoning Gulool Ja Ja that Zereel Ja used for the rite of succession, his goal was to turn this shadow of Gulool Ja Ja into a more powerful version of the original and have him take over the throne of Tuliyollal, thus making Sareel Ja the eventual ruler.

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Sareel Ja is a Boonewa Mamool Ja, but unlike many other Boonewa, his scales are more reddish than blue.

Personality[]

Sareel Ja is ambitious and after personal power, which he thinks he can acquire by supporting Zoraal Ja in his bid as the next Dawnservant. The advice he gives to Zoraal Ja during the rite is often immoral and sycophantic, as he is only concerned about gaining access to the Golden City and acquiring the great power it is said to possess. Sareel Ja is willing to employ devious and treacherous means to ensure Zoraal Ja wins the rite, such as utilizing Bakool Ja Ja to sabotage Wuk Lamat's efforts to ignoring the threat of a freed Valigarmanda to give himself and Zoraal Ja the opportunity to get ahead of the other claimants.

In truth, Sareel Ja merely sees Zoraal Ja as means to an end and is not truly loyal to the First Promise. Ironically, Sareel Ja's ambition would eventually lead to his downfall, as this blinded him to Zoraal Ja's even greater ambition and Zoraal Ja did not hesitate to attempt to kill him after he had served his purpose in finding the Golden City.

After barely surviving Zoraal Ja's betrayal, Sareel Ja continued to seek power for himself but maintained a policy of sticking to the shadows while pulling all the strings in his machinations in Vana'diel in creating a more powerful Dawnservant that would serve his purposes. Thus, overall, Sareel Ja bears no loyalty to Tural or to anyone but to himself, willing to do whatever he deems necessary to be the true power behind the throne of Tuliyollal.
