Final Fantasy Wiki

The character's HP drops swiftly and surely. Remove by casting Regen.

Description

Sap is a status in Final Fantasy XII that works like Poison, but the damage rate is fixed, with the afflicted unit's HP dwindling continuously at a rate of 1 per 0.1 seconds. One can have both Poison and Sap at the same time.

The Sap status will override the Regen status, and the Regen spell removes Sap. Accessories with the Regen effect do not provide immunity, but Regen is capable of outhealing the damage from Sap. Unlike past games, Sap only reduces a victim's HP to 1. It is unaffected by Reverse.

Inflicting enemies with Sap can have limited effectiveness as the health drain does not scale with HP (like Poison does in Final Fantasy XIII, for instance); dealing damage in other ways is superior to 10 HP/s; the status is more of a nuisance to the player characters as it does not wear off after a time like Poison does. Setting up an Ally:Sap → Regen gambit is likely a good idea.

Abilities[]

Item Bio Mote, Meteorite (A)
Spell Bio (Black Magicks), Bleed (Time Magicks), Scourge (Black Magicks)
Weapon Blood Sword 100%, Bonebreaker 100%, Chopper 10%

In addition, the Ensanguined Shield puts the wearer under constant Sap.

Spells have variable success depending on various factors, but can be made to always inflict Sap when the caster equips the Indigo Pendant accessory.

The player can inflict the status to others via Stamp when the character using the Technick is afflicted.

The Nihopalaoa accessory reverses the effect of items, meaning items designed to heal the status will inflict it instead.

The ally-targeting gambit specifically for this status is called "Ally: status = Sap", while the self-targeting is "Self: status = Sap" and the enemy-targeting gambit is "Foe: status = Sap". In the original version, these gambits can be bought for 50 gil after the events at Draklor Laboratory. In the Zodiac versions, the gambits can be purchased for 70 gil after leaving Nalbina Dungeons.
