The Sallet is a heavy armor helm in Final Fantasy XII that boosts the wearer's magickal defense by 7 and Strength by 3. It is the third-weakest helm and basic equipment. It is metallic for the purposes of the Magnetize debuff present in the boss battles against Vinuskar and Ultima.

Obtain[]

Original[]

In the original PlayStation 2 version, the Sallet is sold for 1000 gil in Rabanastre after Barheim Passage, Dalmasca Westersand after the Leviathan but before Treaty-Blade, Bhujerba, and Dreadnought Leviathan.

It is found as a treasure in Ogir-Yensa Sandsea's Central Junction (near the stairs; 72% chance to appear, 50% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Sallet without the Diamond Armlet equipped Map 27 Ogir Yensa Sandsea), and rarely stolen from the Mastiff on board Dreadnought Leviathan.

Zodiac[]

In the updated Zodiac versions, the Sallet is sold for 750 gil in Rabanastre after fighting Ba'Gamnan in Lhusu Mines, Bhujerba, and Dreadnought Leviathan. It is found as a treasure in Trial Mode Stage 15 with the Diamond Armlet equipped. It is still rarely stolen from the Mastiff on board Dreadnought Leviathan.

Use[]

Sallet is a low level helm giving 7 Magick Resist and 3 Strength. The strength bonuses make heavy armor ideal for frontline fighters, though the HP boost from light armor can be valuable in the beginning of the game. Sallet is a good helm to equip over any inferior equipment the player starts with on anyone who attacks physically, although a gun-wielder does not benefit from the strength-boost.

In the original version, Basch and Ashe start with the license to equip the Sallet, Heavy Armor 2. In the Zodiac versions, Uhlan, Knight, Time Battlemage, and Foebreaker can equip it, and so it is only useful to buy if the player has chosen these License Boards as a party member's first job.

Etymology[]

The sallet was a war helmet that replaced the bascinet in Italy, western and northern Europe and Hungary during the mid-15th century.
