Royal mages, trained in all forms of magic.

Description

Runeseeker is a job from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance available to Babus Swain. Runeseeker follows the same stat growth as the Sage, and wields maces in combat. Babus cannot learn any new abilities by wielding maces or change jobs and thus can only have Item as his second A-Ability.

Growth[]

The Runeseeker has the highest MP growth, but is tied with Paladins, Templars, and nu mou Illusionists for slowest speed growth. Compared to other nu mou, Babus has high HP, Attack and Magic Power, allowing him to be equally effective with magic spells and physical attacks, but his Defense and Resistance are mediocre.

Overview[]

The Runeseeker class is exclusive to Babus. He has excellent MP and Magic Power, but suffers from low resistance and terrible speed. His ability set is decently versatile, as it contains area damage, consistent damage, and status effects. Babus can even engage in melee combat despite not having access to Ultima Blow. However, Babus's abilities are hardly considered diverse when compared to the likes of Jugglers or Alchemists. Babus cannot change class, and thus is unable to learn any other abilities. He starts out with one reaction ability and one support ability mastered.

Babus's unique abilities are not all that great, as Explode is outclassed by others in terms of damage, while Stillness is essentially identical to the Time Mage's Stop. Both Quarter and Demi are taken from the Time Mage's ability set even though they are more suited for Time Mages than Babus. Unlocking Babus in the first place follows a lengthy chain of missions, and is subject to a bug that makes either Babus or Shara permanently unrecruitable (in the North American version only).

Overall, Babus's personal class is hardly endgame material. His small ability set is outdone by regular characters. He has respectable stats, but his poor speed limits his usefulness.

Etymology[]

Runes are the letters in a set of related alphabets known as runic alphabets, which were used to write various Germanic languages before the adoption of the Latin alphabet and for specialized purposes thereafter. Historic anthropology regarding the Germanic and Norse peoples that used runes also note that the language was also highly used in magical practices related to these cultures, whether it be in divination, enchantment, and incantation.
