I am Rubicante. Let us measure your worth, warriors, in the crucible of my flames.

Rubicante

Rubicante is a boss in the Dawn of Souls, 20th Anniversary, and mobile versions (bar the Android version) of the original Final Fantasy. The party finds him on the southwest side of the tenth level of the Hellfire Chasm and must defeat either him or Barbariccia to leave the dungeon. His sprite is similar to his incarnation in Final Fantasy IV.

Stats[]

Battle[]

FFI Fira EA

Fira in the 20th Anniversary version.

Rubicante's attacks alternate between Fira, Firaga, a strong physical attack, and the Scorch move. Scorch is a strong Fire-based attack that targets a single character, and Rubicante tends to focus this on the party's melee units (Knight or Master). Scorch can do upwards of 450 damage. Rubicante seems to have his cloak in effect during the whole battle, as he is not weak to Ice.

Strategy[]

Equipping the Ice Armor, or any other armor resistant to Fire, helps immensely. The White Mage can cast NulBlaze and Protera whenever healing is not needed. The Black Wizard will be most useful casting Haste and Temper on the physical units or Thundaga or Flare on Rubicante.

Rewards[]

Rubicante drops Kikuichimonji when defeated that can be equipped to a Ninja and has a higher attack than Sasuke's Blade. Rubicante also guards a chest that contains a Ribbon.

Etymology[]

Rubicante is a demon in the Inferno of Dante's Divine Comedy. He is one of the 12 Malebranche ("Evil Claws") who guard Bolgia Five of the eighth circle of Hell, Malebolge. Vulgar and quarrelsome, their duty is to force the corrupt politicians to stay under the surface of a boiling lake of pitch.

His name means "Red-faced Terror".
