The greatest robe.

Description

The Robe of Lords is the ultimate robe in Final Fantasy IX for mages. It teaches Concentrate, which enhances white magic spells and summons that restore HP, and Reflect-Null, which allows the character's spells to pierce a target's Reflect. The Robe of Lords gives a bonus to the wearer's Speed, Strength, Magic, and Spirit stats when they level up with it equipped. Equipping the robe nullifies Wind damage.

Obtain[]

Mene-shop

Chocobo Hot and Cold shop.

The Robe of Lords is the top reward for Chocobo Hot and Cold, but the player would need to grind the minigame excessively to afford it.

It is a reward for giving 12 Stellazzio coins to Queen Stella; the player can reach this point when they have the Invincible. It is also stolen from Quale, Hades, and Ozma, and synthesized at the legendary synthesis shop for 30,000 gil, a White Robe, and a Black Robe, both of which are also made via synthesis.

Mechanics[]

The Robe of Lords provides 46 Defense and 5 Magic Defense, mainly mitigating physical damage. It is the only robe that does not weaken the wearer to Fire. Notably, it gives a +1 bonus to all of the wearer's grindable stats, Speed, Strength, Magic, and Spirit, when they level up with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Speed is a fairly irrelevant stat, and Strength is only useful for Quina, but Magic and Spirit are generally useful.

Wearing the robe nullifies Wind damage to the wearer.

Use[]

The Robe of Lords is a good robe to wear until the end of the game, though Vivi may prefer the Black Robe to boost Doomsday and Eiko may prefer White Robe to boost Holy and Madeen; these robes' Magic +2 level up bonus may also be preferable to the Robe of Lords's stat boosts as Magic is the best stat to raise for mages, besides for maybe Quina whose Blu Mags barely use it for damage calculation, though they would still benefit from it in the form of improved MP growth.

Concentrate is good for healers and Reflect-Null is good for healers if the party is using Auto-Reflect, such as for Vivi's Reflectx2.

The Wind nullification may be useful against Yans, Gimme Cats, Nova Dragon, Tiamat, and Deathguise.

The Robe of Lords becomes available when the best stat boost equipment will be available. Level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary in a normal playthrough even for superboss encounters, but the Robe of Lords uniquely gives bonuses to all grindable stats.
