Description
Rinoa is a playable character in Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia who can be recruited during the Lost Chapter Where to Go.
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
Rinoa wears a blue knit duster sweater over a black tank top and a denim button-up skirt, with black knee-high boots. She gains a pair of wings in Angel Wing form and can hover over the ground. Her dog, Angelo, is a black-tricolor Australian Shepherd who is her companion in battle.
Her first alternate costume is the Party Dress, which is what she wears in cutscenes during the SeeD inauguration ball. She wears an off-white halter dress with her signature necklace, along with matching heeled dancing shoes, and a bracelet on her right wrist.
Her second alternate costume is based on Valentine Rinoa from Pictlogica Final Fantasy. She wears a white dress, shoes, evening gloves hemmed with pink lace and a heart-shaped hairpin with white wings.
Personality[]
Rinoa shows her playful personality and frequently makes jokes, being friendly with the other warriors. Ever the rebel, she charges headlong into a fight. She melts in Squall's presence and is a source of concern from his point of view.
Story[]
Lost Chapter: Where to Go[]
Rinoa chances upon Onion Knight and several others as they search for Laguna. Before they can explain the situation, they are attacked by monsters. Despite their warnings, Rinoa orders them back to protect them. After defeating the monsters, she defuses Onion Knight's scolding through her cheerful thanks for watching her back.
Rinoa is introduced to the others, Irvine among them, for a full explanation of her new circumstances. Although it is shocking, Rinoa resolves to do her best and fight alongside them. When Squall spots her, she eagerly runs to join him. Squall worries for her and is disappointed she's been involved in this new battle. Rinoa thanks him for his concern, but would much rather be with him, and assures she will be fine as long as they're together.
When she compliments Layle's Crystal power, it sparks a conversation about how different people's unique abilities have caused them to be feared or to fear themselves. Prishe finds it natural that her powers made her hated, and Terra relates how her friends helped her when she lost control of her Esper abilities. Although Rinoa doesn't reveal that she, too, has been feared for inheriting sorceress powers, she takes heart that others who share her problem have found happiness and can accept their powers because of their friends.
Rinoa and Tidus commiserate over having started their journeys as naive and immature. She asks Firion about his motives for joining the Returners and praises him for doing his all even in a different world. When Ashe asks why Rinoa became a rebel and is still fighting, she explains her motives changed from fighting for the independence of one small town, to trying to protect the future alongside her friends. Ashe is satisfied with the seriousness of her resolve, and Edgar is sure she will succeed after learning from past mistakes.
Rinoa is shocked when Krile can speak to animals and has many questions. Rinoa wants to talk to Angelo and be even better partners in battle, but Krile points out that talking doesn't necessarily mean getting along, and Eiko backs this up by saying how often she fought with her moogle friends. Krile tells Rinoa that there are plenty of other ways for her and Angelo to convey their feelings and that she can already understand Angelo's feelings. Rinoa declares to do an even better job of showing Angelo her love from now on.
Act 2, Ch. 7: Respite's Authenticity[]
Sephiroth schemes to usurp Materia's throne, but is defeated by the warriors as led by Cloud, Zack, and Ignis who are surreptitiously supported by Vayne. After restoring Materia to her rightful place on the throne of light, the warriors continue to explore the ruins of a city resembles Insomnia. Noctis pulls Ignis, Prompto, Balthier, Squall, and Rinoa aside and tries to decipher Vayne's intentions now that the emergency has passed. Rinoa notes that Materia's most recent warriors are generally summoned very near to their friends; for Ignis to have met Vayne first is unusual. Ignis suggests it might have been on purpose.
After Balthier reminds the others that Vayne had openly envied Noctis's strong bonds, he suggests that Vayne might have seen some aspect of the person he wished he became within the Crown Prince. Rinoa agrees with his assessment. Ignis ends the speculation and the group presses forward.
Intersecting Wills: A Bouquet of Thoughts and Feelings[]
Rinoa and Squall are chatting with Firion on the deck of the airship when Aerith, Cissnei, and Rude approach them to present the couple with a bouquet of yellow flowers. Although Rinoa is excited, Squall’s reaction is vexed and bemused. Aerith, confused, had heard from Seifer that Squall shared Aerith's dream of filling the world with flowers (as the stated mission of SeeD); however, Squall clarifies that he admitted this as only a spur-of-the-moment, meaningless joke, as at the time he was being interrogated by Seifer while incarcerated. Nevertheless, Aerith, Rinoa, and Firion all tell Squall that there might be something worth retaining in the perspective.
Rinoa later joins to Aerith help Firion search for other flowers, and leads the group to a vast and sweeping grassy plain. Firion nevertheless cannot find what she is looking for, and Firion decides to call off the search. Nevertheless, Rinoa notes that some of flowers in this area might be meaningful for warriors in the main group back on the airship, but they all realize that they don’t have a wagon to move them. It is then that Reno reveals himself as having secured one with the help of Zack. Aerith thanks him, albeit suspiciously, given the impeccability of his timing. Meanwhile, Rinoa and Firion privately note that it seems the Turks are defending her rather than spying on her, and agree that their intentions are pure.

Behind the scenes[]
Rinoa was the second playable character announced concurrently for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and Opera Omnia, after Locke.
Unlike most other characters from the 3D era, Rinoa does not use her original victory animation of jumping up and down. Her pose from Dissidia NT, where she steps away from the camera and points up to the sky, is used instead.
Allusions[]
- Rinoa was announced as a playable character for August 2018, the month matching with her original game, Final Fantasy VIII, and the birth month of Squall.
- Rinoa's event takes place in a plain full of flowers, similar to the opening and ending FMVs from Final Fantasy VIII.
- Rinoa gets Yuna as her Force Mode partner. Both have lost their mothers when they were young and were found and helped by Locke in Dissidia NT.
- Their love relationship with the protagonist of their games also has some similarities, hence the pairing:
- Both girls have been depressed by a shocking fact and later comforted by their love interest - Rinoa was scared about her sorceress powers. Yuna was shocked by Yevon's reality.
- Both couples have made a promise in case they are separated - Squall and Rinoa to meet at the flower field. Tidus and Yuna to whistle.
- Both couples have been separated, but managed to reunite again - Rinoa managed to find Squall when he was lost in the void. Yuna managed to bring Tidus back at the end of Final Fantasy X-2.
- Their love relationship with the protagonist of their games also has some similarities, hence the pairing:
