The Ringmail is a low to mid-ranked light armor in Final Fantasy XII that boosts the wearer's defense by 10, HP by 50, and—unusually for light armor—strength by 1. It is the fifth weakest light armor hat in the game and basic equipment.
Obtain[]
Original[]
The Ringmail is sold for 700 gil in Rabanastre after the Leviathan, Dalmasca Westersand after the Leviathan, but before obtaining the Treaty-Blade, Bhujerba after clashing with Ba'Gamnan in the Lhusu Mines, Dreadnought Leviathan, and Dyce outside the Tomb of Raithwall.
The Ringmail is found in a treasure in Ogir-Yensa Sandsea's Primary Tank Complex (very east; 75% chance to appear, 50% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Ringmail without the Diamond Armlet equipped ).
Zodiac[]
The Ringmail is sold for 700 gil in Rabanastre and Bhujerba after clashing with Ba'Gamnan in the Lhusu Mines, and Dreadnought Leviathan. It is found as a treasure in Dreadnought Leviathan's Large Freight Stores (80% chance to appear, 25% chance for gil, 50% chance the item treasure is the Ringmail without the Diamond Armlet equipped), as well as in Trial Mode Stage 22 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.
Use[]
The Ringmail is a low to mid ranked light armor hat, giving 10 defense, 50 HP and 1 strength. It is useful to equip over any inferior equipment the party may have started with. However, in the original version where everyone can wear any equipment piece, the more expensive heavy armor, Linen Cuirass, or the mystic armor Wizard's Robes, may be preferable if the player can stretch their funds to them, as the HP boost from light armor is not usually worth prioritizing over heavy armor that boosts strength for melee attackers, and mystic gear that boosts magick power for spellcasters. Though the Ringmail provides one point to strength, heavy armor offer much more.
In the Zodiac versions, Machinist, Monk, Archer, and Shikari can equip the Ringmail, and so it is mainly useful to buy if the player has chosen these License Boards as their starter jobs. However, Balthier and Fran start with the license for it and can wear it regardless of job.
