Protects against all abnormal status

Description

Ribbon is an accessory in Final Fantasy VII that protects the user from most status ailments in the game, excluding Instant Death and Near-death as well as Slow and Stop, i.e. everything that Esuna can cure. It is a rare accessory and excellent against Malboros, the final boss, and on the Battle Square.

Ribbon is a recurring status-protection headgear or accessory in the series.

Obtained[]

Morph Ho-chu, Master Tonberry
Find Temple of the Ancients, Gaea's Cliff ice cave, Battle Square (win 10 Special Battles)

The first chance to get a Ribbon is in the Temple of the Ancients, where Ribbon is found in Void of Time (room V) in the area where the player needs to move hands of a clock to access different areas.

On Gaea's Cliff, the player needs to walk through a wall after crossing ice bridge upon reentering first cave area.

To trigger the special battles at the Gold Saucer Battle Square, the player needs to have bought Omnislash and W-Summon as prizes there, have Cloud learn Omnislash, and have acquired Cloud's Ultima Weapon.

Use[]

The Ribbon is an exceptionally powerful accessory, granting immunity to negative statuses. It is highly advised to keep the accessory on at all times once acquired to prevent the character from being debuffed. To protect against Instant Death, the player should equip Added Effect paired with Destruct or Odin in that character's armor. With this setup, the character will be fully immune to all statuses.

To replicate the effect of Ribbon, the player can also equip Added Effect with Hades in armor.

The accessory can be missed if the player does not pick it up at the Temple of the Ancients or Gaea's Cliff, leaving the only method of getting Ribbons through morphing Ho-chus at the Battle Square (random final round opponent after the player has acquired the Highwind). While the Master Tonberry can also be morphed to a Ribbon, they only appear in the final dungeon and are far more cumbersome to fight without the use of Yuffie and the Conformer.

In some fights, it is better to not use the Ribbon and opt for equipment suitable for the fight. For example, in the case of a boss such as Jenova∙LIFE, equipping the Water Ring is advised, or in the case of Emerald Weapon, equipping accessories such as the Sprint Shoes, Curse Ring, or Tough Ring is advised as the bosses do not inflict statuses.

For bosses where Ribbon can be replaced by other accessories, they are as follows:
