Remove KO.
Description
Revive is a command ability in Final Fantasy VIII used bring a party member back from KO status in full health, essentially being the same as the Full-life spell without expending resources. Revive can be used offensively against undead and zombified targets to instantly dispatch them.
Obtained[]
Revive is learned by the GF Alexander for 200 AP, and can be taught to any GF with the Phoenix Spirit item. Alexander is drawn from the boss at the end of the Battle of the Gardens segment or Catoblepas in the final dungeon.
Phoenix Spirit is made from 20 Phoenix Pinions (made from Mega Phoenixes with Tool-RF) with Eden's GFAbl Med-RF, and from the Phoenix card (obtained from the Queen of Cards quest) with Card Mod.
Mechanics[]
Revive revives a fallen ally from Death status and fully restores HP to them, used to easily bring the party back without needing to expend resources. It can also be used to instantly defeat undead or zombified enemies, though it has a chance of missing.
If the character who has Revive equipped becomes confused, they will never use Revive while in this state.
The ability will not have any effect if used in the final dungeon before unlocking Resurrection.
Use[]
Revive is a convenient revival ability, but takes up a command ability slot. As Full-lifes are rare spells, it is better to use Revive over it, but Phoenix Downs and Life spells are usually sufficient and also them leaving the resurrected in HP Critical state works well to put the resurrected in the range of activating Limit Breaks. If the player wants to bring back the party in strong HP, Revive is the best means of doing it over using Phoenix Down/Life + healing, whereas the player can achieve the same in a single turn with Revive.
Revive can be used to defeat undead enemies, most notably the boss Abadon. As it has a chance of missing, the player may prefer using Recover, which deals damage rather than attempt instant death.
