Retainer elezen from FFXIV

Retainers (リテイナー, Riteinā?) were special non-player characters in Final Fantasy XIV version 1.0 who could be employed by players. They could be entrusted with both gil and items, placed in Market Ward areas to manage bazaars, and given a number of other tasks.

Employing a retainer[]

To employ a retainer, players needed visit an Adventurers' Guild in any city-state and speak to a specific NPC. These NPCs were:

The player could then choose their retainer's race, tribe, and gender or have these attributes randomly selected by the game. Although the retainers had given names, players could assign a nickname for reference. Retainers’ appearances were fixed, but they could wear items on sale to advertise wares.

Retainer Summoning Bell from FFXIV 1x

Summoning Bell.

Retainers are summoned using a summoning bell and can be instructed to hold items, sell goods, or perform other tasks, such as managing a bazaar. These bells could be found in specific locations. When interacting, the retainer's status was shown indicating whether they were busy and whether they could be called at that moment.

Once summoned, players could deliver or receive items or gil from retainers and place items for sale in a bazaar. They had a maximum storage capacity of 80 items. Players could also adjust the retainer's equipment with items for sale or terminate the retainer's employment. Dismissing a retainer with an active bazaar from a market area would close the bazaar, allowing the retainer to be summoned from other locations.

To set up a retainer's bazaar, the player would travel to the entrance of any market and then select an area within which they wished to set up a bazaar. Each market area was associated with specific item types. The sale of items of that type in the appropriate area serves to reduce the tax levied on the transaction. Following is a complete list of market areas and their associated item types.
