Use[]

The Restore Materia grants three tiers of curative spells, beginning with the basic Cure, as well as the curative spell Regen. The Cure2 spell is unlocked upon gaining 2500 AP for the Materia, and Cure3 is unlocked upon receiving 25000 AP. The Cure spells are increasingly more potent for greater MP costs, and are particularly important both for sustainability during fights and for healing in-between battles. Regen, on the other hand, applies the Regen status effect, which restores 1/32 of a character's max HP every 4 seconds, making longer fights much easier. The spells can also be used to damage undead enemies.

Characters who equip the Materia receive moderate stat changes: +2% to MP and +1 Magic, but also -2% HP and -1 Strength. These stat changes are small enough to not be too detrimental to physical attackers, meaning that anyone can equip it. This may even be ideal, as it is important for the magic to be given to characters with MP to spare, and for Regen, the Magic stat is not relevant. Nonetheless, characters with higher Magic stats are the better healers, such as Cloud, Aeris, Red XIII, Yuffie, Cait Sith, and Vincent. The caution with this is that if these characters are using MP for attack magic also, they may struggle to keep up healing. However, if using the spells to damage Undead enemies, they are best given to characters with higher Magic stats.

Pairing Restore with All allows a character to cure all allies at once. Doing this can also apply Regen to all allies. Though it can also be paired with other Support Materia to boost its ability, most Support Materia is better given to other attack and healing magic Materia.

Restore remains useful throughout the game. It is often best to have curative spells on hand even when other spells and linked Materia can also heal characters, due to its reliability. Eventually, it can be ideal to have curative spells available for every party member, meaning it is a good idea to master the Materia early. Regen, on the other hand, can heal a character over time, negating many enemy attacks and providing greater durability in longer-lasting fights. Restore is especially good to take along to the Battle Square and to the Pagoda sidequest where the player only has one party member; this is where the Regen spell also shines.

Though the player can later obtain the Full Cure Materia, it has a considerable MP cost, and Cure3 can often heal for the necessary amount to restore a character's HP to full for much less. This means Full Cure should only be used for dire situations. The Enemy Skill White Wind can act as a substitute as well, and may be superior as it also heals status ailments and targets the whole player party, though only heals as much HP as the caster has.
