Gerolt, after he successfully revived the Thyrus.
Relic Weapon (古の武器, Inishie no Buki?) is a group of weapons that require a heavy amount of work in order to upgrade and customize, but yield high rewards. Due to their high potential stats and difficulty in obtaining, Relic Weapons are often considered to be on a level of ultimate weapons, although alternatives exist for players who do not enjoy Relic grinds.
The Relic Weapons have six stages of upgrades: base form, Zenith, Atma, Animus, Novus, and Nexus. Starting with the Novus stage, players can customize the secondary stats on their weapon. Upon reaching the Nexus stage, players can transform their relic weapon into a Zodiac weapon starting with patch 2.45. Unlike many weapons, Relic Weapons cannot be equipped by classes, only by their upgraded jobs.
Relic Weapons are obtained through the "A Relic Reborn" quest which is accessible to the player upon completion of the main story quest. The beginning quest is The Weaponsmith of Legend, although on completion, obtaining additional Relic Weapons does not require this quest to be completed again. Gerolt is the main weaponsmith of Relic Weapons.
Stages[]
Broken form[]
The base form is unlocked through a quest with Gerolt. He instructs the adventurer to find the broken relic to return to him in Hyrstmill. After this, the adventurer must bring a specific crafted weapon, with two specific materia double-melded, varying on class, to him. This will present the player with the unfinished weapon.
Base form[]
The base form is item level 80.
Once the broken form weapon is acquired, Alumina Salts from the Dhrome Chimera in the Trial "A Relic Reborn: Chimera" must be obtained by defeating it in the trial (as the job the weapon is for). Following this, the adventurer is required to obtain a book, and must talk to Rowena in Mor Dhona, and then obtain the Amdapor Glyph from Amdapor Keep in exchange for the book Gerolt requested. 24 specific beastmen from the specific stronghold must then be killedZahar'ak Lancer x8, Pugilist x8, Thaumaturge x8U'Ghamaro Quarrymen x8, Roundmen x8, Bedesmen/Priest x8, and then sly Hydra (as the job the weapon is for, using the unfinished weapon).
Finally, White-Hot Ember, Howling Gale and Hyperfused Ore must be obtained by defeating Ifrit (Hard), Garuda (Hard) and Titan (Hard) respectively, as the job the weapon is for. After this, a "Bottle of Radz-at-Han Quenching Oil" must be purchased for 15 Allagan Tomestones of Poetics and given to Gerolt at Hyrstmill for the base form to be completed.
Zenith[]
Zenith Weapons are a small upgrade to item level 90 weapons, and is acquired from a simple quest.
The first upgrade requires only three Thavnairian Mists to be purchased from Auriana in Revenant's Toll, Mor Dhona (x22,y6). Each costs 20 Tomestones of Poetics, making a total of 60 tomestones spent per relic. After this, the player must visit the North Shroud Furnace by Gerolt, and merge them with the base form weapon (the Curtana and Holy Shield require two mists and one mist respectively). This will upgrade to Zenith.
Atma[]
In order to upgrade to Atma, Gerolt asks the adventurer to speak to Jalzahn, who in turn asks that 12 unique crystal Atma objects are obtained from FATEs around Eorzea. To obtain an Atma, the Adventurer must complete a FATE with the Zenith Relic Weapon equipped, and the crystal may randomly drop at an estimated 10% chance. Once an Atma drops, an in-game pop up will notify the player. The rating has no effect on whether or not it will drop, and players do not have to stay the full length of the FATE as long as it is completed. Players can collect multiple Atmas of the same kind, but only one of each kind may be used per weapon.
Once the crystals are brought to Jalzahn, the quest is completed.

Etymology[]
relic comes from the Latin reliquiae, meaning "remains" or "something left behind" (the same root as relinquish). In religion, a relic usually consists of the physical remains of a saint or the personal effects of the saint or venerated person preserved for purposes of veneration as a tangible memorial.
