Grants Regen on all party members.

Description

Reis's Wind is a Dragon ability in Final Fantasy IX used by Freya that bestows the party with Regen for a cost of 10 MP, making them accumulate HP over time.

Obtained[]

Reis's Wind is learned for 40 AP from Mythril Spear (earliest obtain: find in Burmecia), Holy Lance (earliest obtain: steal from Ark), Gold Helm (earliest obtain: buy from shops after returning from the Outer Continent), and Angel Earrings (earliest obtain: assign the Knights of Pluto correctly during Battle of Alexandria).

Mechanics[]

Reis's Wind bestows Regen onto the player party, making them automatically replenish 1/16th of their maximum HP at intervals until the status expires. The interval decreases with higher Spirit attribute, and is affected by the Battle Speed set in the Config and if the target has Slow or Haste. Regen is the lengthiest expirable status enhancement, together with Shell and Protect.

Use[]

Reis's Wind is a great ability for Freya, superior to Eiko's Regen spell, targeting the whole party while ignoring Reflect, and is available earlier too. Reis's Wind is especially good in boss battles, such as against Beatrix, Antlion, Zorn and Thorn, and Tantarian. However, as Freya does not accompany Zidane Tribal to the Outer Continent, she is away from the party for a length of time, and after she rejoins, more dedicated healers are available. Magic-use is forbidden in Oeilvert, but Freya can still use her Dragon abilities, so taking her along lets the party use Reis's Wind in the battle against Ark. After Desert Palace, Eiko will be away from the party and Dagger's commands frequently fail, so Freya could be good to support the party with Reis's Wind through Mount Gulug.

After Auto-Regen becomes widely available, Reis's Wind becomes obsolete.

The one downside is that Freya in general is not a healer-type character, and so using Reis's Wind takes up her turn for support when she could have used it for damaging the enemy with her physical prowess.

Etymology[]

The ability is named after Reis Duelar from Final Fantasy Tactics.
