Regen is a player-exclusive status in Final Fantasy IX that periodically replenishes the affected's HP. Regen is more effective the higher the unit's Spirit, lasting longer and ticking more frequently, and keeps on restoring health even during battle animations, allowing the party to easily regain their health by summoning an eidolon. Regen normally restores 1/16th of the target's Max HP per tick. The effect is reversed on the undead.
Mechanics[]
Regen restores 1/16th of the unit's maximum HP per tick. The better Spirit stat the target has, the longer Regen lasts and the more often it heals. Mechanics wise, the same calculation that is used for the rate ATB gauges fill is used for calculating status duration and tick frequency.
- Status duration = Spirit * 360
- Heal frequency = (60 - Spirit) * 40
Both the status duration and the tick frequency also take into account Battle Speed as set in the Config, as well as the unit's speed status (Stop, Slow, Normal, Haste). Regen ticks exactly every 2 seconds at 50 Spirit at the fastest battle speed.
On an undead unit, the effect is reversed and they take damage every tick instead.
Abilities[]
Ability | Aura (Flair), Reis's Wind (Dragon) |
---|---|
Support ability | Auto-Regen |
Spell | Regen (Wht Mag) |
Enemy abilities[]
Enemies do not have access to the Regen status.
Removal[]
Regen from Auto-Regen cannot be removed, but could be made a hazard by inflicting the character with Zombie. Regen from sources other than Auto-Regen can be removed with Dispel, but will also lapse on its own after a time.
Enemies[]
The following enemies are immune to Regen:
- All friendly monsters
- All bosses except Prison Cage and Right tentacle
- Core
- Epitaph
- Ragtime Mouse & True & False
- Gargoyle
- Mover
- Sand Golem
- Tonberry
- Zaghnol (Festival)
Use[]
Regen is best bestowed via Auto-Regen, which the player party learn at different times in the game from varying equipment pieces. Auto-Regen can make all other sources of healing obsolete even for superboss battles. Regen from other sources is not so useful as it will expire quickly and the player may be better using their turn for a simple healing spell instead.
