Regaltrice is an enemy in Final Fantasy XV fought in Cleigne (notably in Steyliff Grove maze during Chapter 15) and during the hunt Lovable Little Gluttons.
Bestiary[]
- Alpha
- A young regaltrice that generally poses no threat to humanity at large. Mass hatchings are reported on rare occasion, however, and the baby birds flock outward from their natural habitat. It is at this point hunters are called upon to cull the burgeoning population.
- Size: 4.56 ft. Weight: 121.7 lb.
- Beta
- The noble offspring of a royalisk and kingatrice living in the depths of Steyliff Grove. The regaltrice's existence is masked in mystery as it hardly ever leaves the safety of the subterranean ruins.
- Size: 4.69 ft. Weight: 129.8 lb.

Battle[]

Regaltrices confuse party members, which makes them act erratically and reverses the player's controls and randomizes weapons for each strike when playing as Noctis. They appear in big groups and can overwhelm the player with attacks that keep knocking Noctis down; they peck those close to them, bounce onto the player, and charge and headbutt from afar (can be block/parried). When not attacking they run around the battlefield.
Strategy[]
Confusion can be protected against with accessories and food buffs. To avoid being continually knocked down, the player can keep the dodge button pressed and look for block and parry prompts, stay on the outskirts of the flock to avoid being crowded, or character-swap to Gladiolus who does not get staggered so easily.
Throwing lightning elemancy at the flock can damage all birds at once. Group-hitting Techniques and Ignis's Enhancement are good. Character-swapping to Ignis and using his lightning daggers is also powerful.
During the hunt at the Vesperpool area, the regaltrice spawn on water; the player can freeze the birds in place by trowing Blizzard elemancy at them; the player can point-warp onto the rock in the middle and throw the magic flask onto the birds from there to avoid being frozen on the ice themselves.
Etymology[]
The name is a portmanteau of "regal" and "cockatrice." cockatrice is a creature from mythology. It is similar to the basilisk in appearance and ability, but also possesses flight. A cockatrice is born from an egg hatched by a rooster and incubated by a toad, and its gaze causes instant petrification.
TheThe Japanese name is akin to "Noble Chickatrice". The Japanese name for a "chickatrice" is a portmanteau of the Japanese word for "chick" (雛鳥, hinadori?) and "cockatrice" (コカトリス, kokatorisu?).
