Cause magicks to be reflected from all allies in range.
Description
Reflectga is a Time Magick spell both in the Zodiac versions of Final Fantasy XII as well as in the original PlayStation 2 version. It is a multi-target status enhancement spell that bounces magicks targeted at the affected toward their foes. It can be used to avoid damage, though the toughest magick-focused foes bypass it, like entites. Another and perhaps a more useful application of Reflect is to multi-cast multi-targeting spells. Reflectga is an upgrade to the single-targeting Reflect.
Reflectga can be cast by Dead Bones, Yiazmat, and Ultima.
The player can also use the spell via the consumable item Reflectga Mote.
Obtained[]
Reflectga's license costs 100 License Points in the Zodiac versions, where the spell is found in Feywood's the Edge of Reason area. This is the last area of Feywood before Giruvegan and the treasure for Reflectga sits on a trap. To avoid triggering the trap, the player can use Float or Steel Poleyns. The treasure is exactly in between of the shrine closest to Giruvegan gate, and the middle shrine of this area.
In the original version, Reflectga's license costs 110 LP. It is bought for 6800 gil from Archades.
In the Zodiac versions, Reflectga is used by the Time Battlemage and the Machinist after unlocking the Esper Famfrit on their License Board.
Mechanics[]
Reflectga temporarily bestows the Reflect status onto all allies in range that bounces magicks targeted at the affected to the opposing party—not at the caster specifically as it says in the in-game status description. I.e. spells targeted at an ally with Reflect bounce onto foes, and magicks reflected off enemies bounce onto allies. If there is no opposing party, the spell fizzles and does not hit anything. Reflect prevents magick healing as well as magick damage. Many enemies have the Ignore Reflect augment. Reflect is removed with Dispel. Reflect only bounces magick once, so if the other party also has Reflect, the spell will not bounce again.
The formula for the duration is:
The duration depends on the receiver's Vitality stat, not the caster's. Haste and Slow do not affect the length other status effects will last, but Stop will halt them.
Reflectga costs 24 MP to cast without Channeling licenses. The spell itself will bounce from pre-existing Reflect status unless the caster wears the Opal Ring.
Use[]
Reflectga is a status enhancement spell the player can easily set up via the gambit system (such as with Self→Reflectga). Instead of using the spell, the player can also Reflect permanently from the Ruby Ring accessory or the Mirror Mail armor piece.
Reflect makes the affected immune to many enemies' magick, but as a downside, they also cannot be targeted by the player's own magick unless the caster wears the Opal Ring accessory that allows them to bypass Reflect with their spells.
The following enemies' spells are unaffected by Reflect: All entites and Esper bosses, including Chaos's chaosjets and Mateus's Ice Azers, Dead Bones, Lich, Necrofiend, Nightwalker, Ghast, Crystalbugs (red, blue, green), Clay Golem, Pumpkin Head, Mu, Ose, Skulwyrm, Gargoyle Baron, Necrophobe, Magick Pot, Archaeoaevis (Zodiac), Dragon Lich, Brainpan, Mistmare, Bogey, Adamantitan, Emeralditan, (Babil), Elvoret, Wraith, Darksteel, Piscodaemon, Feral Retriever, Mindflayer, Gil Snapper, Behemoth King, Shadowseer, Yiazmat, Demon Wall (Outer), Hell Wyrm, Omega Mark XII, Aspidochelon, Thalassinon, Vishno, Melt, Crypt Bunny, Cultsworn Lich, Vorres, Larva Eater, Tower, Arioch, Disma, Pallicant, Imperial Beastmaster, Spinner-Rook, Sphere-Rook, Helm-Rook, Doctor Cid (2), Judge Drace, Judge Zargabaath, and the final boss. Zeromus and Tyrant also use Piercing Graviga. All enemies who use motes rather than spells are also unaffected by Reflect.
The player can heal with items when they are using Reflect. Bestowing the whole player party with Reflect and then casting a multi-targeting spell onto them reflects the spell multiple times onto the enemies, allowing the player to bombard enemies with spells. A workable gambit for this would be e.g. Ally status:Reflect→Aeroga. This trick works well with third tier Black Magicks and with Cura and Curaja against the undead. This could work in places like the Necrohol of Nabudis against the Baknamies there with Blizzaga, or against the swarms of undead in the deep parts of Henne Mines with Curaja.
Reflect is good against magick-using enemies who lack the aforementioned Ignore Reflect passive ability, however, most tough magick-users do have it, making Reflect not very potent in avoiding damage. To mitigate magick damage, the player can use Shell. Reflect can also be used to bypass the enemy's Reflect status, as magicks only bounce once, but Opal Ring would be superior.
When the player gets Reflectga, they can use it instead of the single-targeting Reflect spell that is available earlier, though Reflect remains useful for only applying the status to a specific target. Reflectga is good for the multi-casting trick to bestow the status to all allies in one go.
