+ | Reflect リフレク, also called Repel, is a recurring status effect in the Final Fantasy series. A unit with the status will reflect magic—offensive, defensive, healing, or otherwise—bouncing them off to affect the caster instead. Common ways to gain the status are through the spell Reflect (a White or Time Magic spell in games that have magic classes), the item Light Curtain, the accessory Reflect Ring, the ability Auto-Reflect, and by the summon Carbuncle. |

+ | In most games spells will only be reflected once; if a spell reflects off the intended target, the spell will always hit a member of the opposing party regardless of whether or not they have Reflect as well. The exception is Final Fantasy VII, where spells can reflect back and forth until the status wears off. There are also spells that cannot be reflected, like spells that hit all targets like Ultima. |

In the NES version the spell Erase is bugged and doesn't remove the Reflect status even if it is supposed to. Further, the Reflect spell itself is bugged in the NES version and doesn't reflect magic back at enemies when cast on allies. The boss Leviathan can cast this spell on itself. |

With Auto-Reflect (Reflect Ring and the enemy Mirage) the spell is bounced only once. The spell is reflected either back to the caster, or to a random member of the opposing party if an ally reflects a spell off an ally. If the player casts Reflect on all enemies and all party members, and then applies Resist status on them all, and tries to cast a spell to a target, the game will freeze. Casting Pandora's Box on Proud Clod at the Battle Square with a party member and the enemy both having Reflect can result in an infinite loop reflecting back and forth between the party and the enemy. |

+ | There is a cosmetic glitch that happens if the player casts Barrier/MBarrier/Wall on a party member who has Reflect. The spell is reflected onto the enemy party as normal, but the caster's animation is cut short and doesn't jump back to their original spot on the party roster, thus going forward a bit every time they use Barrier/MBarrier/Wall. Wall seems to make the user jump slightly further than the other two spells. If the user is attacked (without them dying or the attack misses), or attacks the enemy, they return to their original position. If the character is killed when they are out of their intended position, they remain in the forward position and can be revived without returning to the original position. The battlefields have no boundaries, so the caster can keep casting Wall and inch forward every time. If the battlefield has walls the caster will simply go through them and keep going. If the player keeps casting till they reach the edge of the map, they teleport backwards all the way to the other bound behind the party, and begin inching forward toward the party from behind them. The player can try this in a battle with one enemy left and under the Manipulate status to block any interference, use Reflect Ring for continuous Reflect effect, HP↔MP to have enough MP for continuous casting without replenishing MP, and W-Magic to cast Wall twice per turn to move even further. This glitch works in every version of Final Fantasy VII.<!--video example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlGDQo3_QGg--> |

If the entire party has Reflect and Vivi reflects a spell off all party members, the spell will hit four times; if the battle has only one opponent it will take the full damage, but with multiple targets Reflect x2 bonus is halved and the damage is randomly split between the opponents. |

Reflect (リフレク, Rifureku?), also called Repel, is a recurring status effect in the Final Fantasy series.
In most games spells will only be reflected once; if a spell reflects off the intended target, the spell will always hit a member of the opposing party regardless of whether or not they have Reflect as well. The exception is Final Fantasy VII, where spells can reflect back and forth until the status wears off. There are also spells that cannot be reflected, like spells that hit all targets like Ultima.
Appearances
Final Fantasy III
Reflect can be achieved through the spell Reflect, Odin's summoning spell Protective Light, and the item Shining Curtain. In the NES version the spell Erase is bugged and doesn't remove the Reflect status even if it is supposed to. Further, the Reflect spell itself is bugged in the NES version and doesn't reflect magic back at enemies when cast on allies. The boss Leviathan can cast this spell on itself.
Final Fantasy IV
Reflect, Light Curtain, and Lunar Curtain give the Reflect status to party members. In the SNES versions, there is a visual bug that makes certain spells look different when reflected, such as the Death spell will turn red. This bug does not affect the GBA port. The Status cannot be dispelled in all non-3D versions.
The reflect status triggers the second form glitch in some versions.
Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
Final Fantasy V
Reflect may be achieved through the spell Reflect, the accessory Reflect Ring, the summon Carbuncle, and the mix Dragon Defense.
Reflect can reflect the following:
- All White Magic spells except Dispel.
- All Black Magic spells except Drain and Osmose.
- For Time Magic spells, the following can be reflected: Slow, Regen, Haste, Float, Gravity, Stop, Slowga, Graviga, Hastega, Old, and Banish.
- For Blue Magic spells, the following can be reflected: Level 5 Death, Level 4 Graviga, Level 3 Flare, Level 2 Old, Aero, Aera, Aeroga, Mind Blast, Mighty Guard, Dark Spark, and Off-Guard.
- For enemy abilities, the following can be reflected: Delta Attack, Search, 100 Gs, Blaster, Gamma Ray, Atomic Ray, Frostbite, Electrocute, and Megaflare.
Final Fantasy VI
The party may obtain Reflect through the spell Reflect, the esper Carbuncle, and the relic Reflect Ring. The enemy can obtain Reflect through Reflect spell as well as Program 18 and Magitek Barrier. Reflected spells deal half normal damage, and Reflect itself wears off after approximately 55 seconds. Spells auto-cast from weapons cannot be reflected.
The following spells cannot be reflected:
Final Fantasy VII
The accessory Reflect Ring, the spell Reflect, the item Mirror, and the enemy ability Materia Jammer, cast Reflect to either one unit or the whole party. Reflect bounces magic back to the caster for up to four times.
Spells bounced off Reflect will continuously bounce back and forth between the targets if they both have Reflect up, until a target's Reflect status runs out after four hits.
The effect can be removed by DeBarrier or DeSpell.
There are many spells that cannot be reflected; summons and spells cast from items cannot be reflected.
The following spells cannot be reflected:
- Demi
- Demi2
- Demi3
- Reflect
- DeBarrier
- DeSpell
- Escape
- Remove
- Comet
- Comet 2
- Ultima
- Shield
- Renew

There is a cosmetic glitch that happens if the player casts Barrier/MBarrier/Wall on a party member who has Reflect. This glitch works in every version of Final Fantasy VII.
Final Fantasy VIII
Reflect is achieved through the spell Reflect, the GF Carbuncle, and the ability Auto-Reflect. It lasts for 32 seconds.
Final Fantasy IX
The White Magic spell Reflect, the eidolon Carbuncle, and support ability Auto-Reflect apply Reflect status on the party.
Vivi has access to the Reflectx2 support ability, which doubles the damage dealt by a spell he casts when it is reflected. This coupled with Auto-Reflect makes it easy for Vivi to reach the damage limit. If the entire party has Reflect and Vivi reflects a spell off all party members, the spell will hit four times; if the battle has only one opponent it will take the full damage, but with multiple targets Reflect x2 bonus is halved and the damage is randomly split between the opponents.
The Reflect-Null support ability lets the caster bypass targets' Reflect status.
Final Fantasy X
The party achieves Reflect through the spell Reflect, the ability Auto-Reflect, and the item Star Curtain.
Reflect only works against Black Magic, White Magic, and certain spells learned by enemies, including Confuse, Break, Blind, Silence, Sleep, Berserk, and Yu Pagoda's Curse. It does not affect spells which target the whole party simultaneously like Demi and Ultima, though it does work against spells that target each member of the party like the Nul-spells, Hastega, and Slowga.
It does not work against Dispel and Auto-Life, nor items, even if their effects are similar to some spells.
Final Fantasy X-2
Reflect can be granted to party members through the White Magic spell Reflect, the item Star Curtain, and the accessory Star Bracer. Yuna can give herself (and all parts) of Floral Fallal Reflect through the Mirror Petals ability. Enemies can grant themselves Reflect through Reflect and Star Curtain as well.
Final Fantasy XII
The character is enveloped in a reflective barrier that bounces magicks back at their caster. The effect is temporary.
Description
Reflect, Reflectga, Reflectga Mote, a Ruby Ring and equipping Mirror Mail bestow the status to the party. The Opal Ring allows the player to use magick on targets without it bouncing back. Reflect is ignored when using Motes.
Final Fantasy Tactics
Malboros can grant Reflect to other enemies through the abilities Lick. The player may grant themselves Reflect through the Time Magic spell Reflect, the summon Carbuncle, or by equipping Reflect Ring or Cherche.
When a spell is reflected, it is not reflected back at the user. Rather, the spell bounces to the square in the same distance and direction as it was originally cast. So, if one is casts a spell 2 squares directly ahead, and the target has reflect, then the spell will land on the square two more away from the original target.
Magick which can be reflected is indicated by a crooked arrow icon in the menu. Magick cast by Arithmeticks or weapon or already bounced once will not be reflected. The magick will be voided when caster with Reflect status casts the spell on themselves. The game A.I. knows to avoid or take advantage of the magick which is going to be reflected.

- Key: C - caster; T - target; R - target with Reflect status; D - destination
In the example 3, since the target does not have the Reflect status, he will receive the magick with area of effect twice.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Players may grant Reflect status to their characters by either equipping the Mirror Mail, by summoning Carbuncle, or by casting the Reflect spell.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
Reflect can be granted through the spell Reflect, by equipping the Mirror Mail, or by summoning Carbuncle.
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
There is no Reflect spell, but the status still appears. The enemies Ooze and Beholder, as well as their palette swaps, are set in permanent Repel status and are entirely immune to magic attacks. Pazuzu and Zuh have an ability called PsychShield, which sets Repel status on them for a short period of time.
There is no way to achieve Repel status on the player's characters, however.
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light
The Reflect status is gained from the Black Mage's Mirror ability. It reflects all spells at the opponent.
