The Red M-phone (also known as the Red M-Phone[1]) is a weapon for Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII. It is available at Icicle Inn, and has stats on-par with weapons available for other characters from there. It has six Materia slots, four of which are linked.

As with other Cait Sith weapons, the Blue M-phone itself does not strike an enemy, but commands his Mog, meaning Cait Sith's damage is still Hit rather than Shout. However, its Attack stat still counts towards damage dealt.

Obtained[]

The Red M-phone is purchased for 11,000 gil from Icicle Inn.

Mechanics[]

As the Red M-phone has a base Attack stat bonus of 60, the base damage for physical attacks when it is equipped is in the following formula:

where "Level" is Cait Sith's current level and "Strength" is his Strength stat. The Red M-phone also has an Attack% (Accuracy) of 100%, and grants a +15 bonus to Cait Sith's Magic stat.

The Red M-phone is available for Cait Sith after reaching Icicle Inn. It is the most well-rounded weapon for Cait Sith at that point, though some players may prefer the Silver M-phone's greater number of (unlinked) Materia slots. Which the player prefers depends on how much they value having more linked Materia slots or the increase in Attack.

The Red M-phone has six Materia slots, four of which are linked. Cait Sith has one of the best Magic stats in the game, and his physical damage is fairly unreliable, meaning that he is best played as a spellcaster. As such, these slots should be used for Magic and Summon Materia, and should be paired with Support Materia. The unlinked slots are best used for Independent Materia, or for the Enemy Skill Materia (which can also benefit from Cait Sith's Magic boost).

After acquiring the Highwind, the Crystal M-phone becomes available at Mideel, which is the more well-rounded choice with superior stats and six linked Materia slots, while the Gold M-phone becomes the best choice for Materia slots as it has eight linked ones. The Gold M-phone is normally a better replacement for Cait Sith due to his primary playstyle as a spellcaster, but either mean that the Red M-phone should be replaced once the Highwind is obtained.
