The Red Flan is an enemy in the Dawn of Souls and succeeding remakes of the original Final Fantasy, meant to resemble the Flanes Rojos from Final Fantasy X-2. It is a relatively rare enemy, found in the deepest levels (B21 onwards) of the Whisperwind Cove in the levels resembling Mount Gulg, the Cavern of Earth, and in the level resembling the Overworld.
Stats
Battle
Like most of the Flan clan, its Defense stat is astronomical and thus renders physical attacks useless. It is the strongest of the Flans, however a group of them can be defeated easily with a Blizzara or Firaga spell.
Etymology
The word Flan refers to an open pastry or sponge cake containing a sweet or savory filling. A typical flan of this sort is round, with shortcrust pastry, usually coated with sweet syrup. It is similar to a custard tart or a South African melktert.
Trivia
The Ooze enemy in the NES version of the game originally had a red coloring, however its name was changed to Ochre Jelly and it was assigned a yellow color.
