Battle[]
Red Dragons are found in the Lunar Subterrane in the final stages of the game. They can show up by themselves, or in groups of two to three.
In the original SNES and the PlayStation versions, the Red Dragon sprites were too big to place two or three on the screen, so they overlapped, creating the illusion of only one Red Dragon being present (this also occurs in The Complete Collection if there are three Red Dragons in a battle).
Strategy[]
Red Dragons can be a difficult enemy to face, unless the right strategy is implemented. The first measure would be to cast Berserk on them preventing them from using their Thermal Ray attack. Their weakness to Ice may then be exploited with Rydia's Blizzaga and Edge's Flood. It is also possible to Paralyze them, with the Mindflayer summon being the preferred method.

Etymology[]
dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, which is featured in the myths of many cultures.
AChromatic dragon is a classification of dragon in the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons who are typically of evil alignment, in contrast to the metallic dragons, and their queen is Tiamat. White, black, green, blue and red dragons are the classic chromatic dragons. Final Fantasy has derived a lot of influence from D&D, especially the early series. Red dragons are the largest and most powerful of the classic chromatic dragons who regard other chromatic dragons as inferior and make home inside active volcanoes or mountains. Red dragons use their powerful breath first, followed by physical strikes, then magical attacks.
