Refine Recovery Medicine from an item
Description
Recov Med-RF (recovery medicine refiner) is a menu ability in Final Fantasy VIII that allows the player to make basic healing items from other items. Though Hi-Potions and Phoenix Downs are widely sold in shops, the ability allows the player to get Mega-Potions easily, and can be used to replenish supplies when no shops are nearby, such as in the middle of dungeons.

The Guardian Force Carbuncle learns Recov Med-RF for 30 AP. Carbuncle is drawn from Iguions during the Deling City parade, or from Krysta in the final dungeon. If the player removes Recov Med-RF with Amnesia Greens, there is no way to get it back.
Mechanics[]
Using Recov Med-RF in the Ability menu enables the player to make recovery items up to the cap of 100 of a single item type.

Recov Med-RF only makes Hi-Potions, Phoenix Downs, and Mega-Potions; to make "+" versions of items and X-Potions, the player needs Med LV Up from Alexander; to make Tents, the player needs Siren's Tool-RF; to make Elixirs, the player needs Forbid Med-RF from Doomtrain; and to make status heal items, the player needs ST Med-RF, also from Siren.
Mega-Potion is a good healing item early on to heal the whole party some HP at once. The player can buy Cottages and Tents from shops to transform into Mega-Potions, since gil is usually not a huge hurdle in Final Fantasy VIII due to there being so few shop offerings and salary payouts being steady, or they can farm Mesmerize Blades from Mesmerize cards (with Card Mod) or from Mesmerizes themselves.
