Reconnaissance is a quest in Chapter 16, "The Belly of the Beast" in Final Fantasy VII Remake, taking place in the Shinra Building. After reaching the 63rd floor of the Shinra Building, Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, and Barret Wallace talk to the Avalanche collaborator, who suggests they listen in on Shinra's meeting.

Side activities[]
When the quest begins, a few side activities are available on this floor. Chadley can be found for Battle Intel updates, and also the chance to obtain the 
Leviathan Materia after fighting the Leviathan boss. Leviathan is weak to 
Lightning Materia, and can be defeated at this stage; ensure at least one character has Healing Materia paired with 
Magnify Materia, equip buffing materia, such as Time Materia or Barrier Materia, guard against its attacks, and focus on dealing most damage while it is staggered to defeat it.
In addition to this battle, the Shinra Combat Simulator provides more combat challenges for prizes, including powerful materia and armor and accessories; if confident, completing these will save a lot of gil from buying them from the item store. In particular, the 
EXP Up Materia and the Gil Up Materia can be useful to acquire.
In the east, an item store sells all previously available weapons, as well as several pieces of armor: the Cog Bangle, Geometric Bracelet, Supreme Bracer, and the Rune Armlet. Each provides a good amount of materia slots and good stats. Cog Bracer is the more budget-friendly of the items, while Supreme Bracer provides very strong physical defense, Rune Armlet provides strong magical defense, and Geometric Bracelet provides four slots at the cost of lower defense. Several new accessories can also be purchased. Four of these are stat-boosting items: Supernatural Wristguards provide +10% 
Strength for physical damage, Survival Vest provides +10% 
Vitality for physical defense, Platinum Earrings provides +10% 
Magic, and Timeworn Talisman provides +10% 
Spirit for magical defense. Aside from this, Star Pendant provides immunity to 
Poison, while Headband provides immunity to 
Sleep. Finally, in the southeast corner, a jukebox can be found next to a bench, from which the "Scarlet's Theme" disc can be gained.
Main objective[]
The main objective is to sneak into the air duct in the men's bathroom. On the way there, use the stairs down to a lower level to commence a cutscene, after which, proceed down to the lower level and use the exit to return to Escalator Hall. Following a cutscene, take the escalators up to floor 64, open a keycard leading inside, and after some dialogue, proceed to the southeast corner of the room on the map and go further in, then use the cubicle on the lefthand side to reach the duct.

In the duct, crawl forward, and at the fork, go left. The room below can be eavesdropped here, but this is optional. Proceed forward and another optional conversation from the room below can be viewed. Past this, head forward, and left at the fork to obtain a HP Up Materia, then head back and right then move forward for a cutscene. After this, Cloud and Tifa will leave the vent, and the next quest, "Operation: Save Aerith", will commence.
