Ring with a phoenix's power dwelling inside.

Description

The Rebirth Ring is a mid to endgame add-on in Final Fantasy IX that everyone can equip. It teaches Auto-Life, which bestows Auto-Life status at the start of battle (even if the character starts the battle in KO state); Life, a White Magic spell that revives KO'd allies and destroys undead enemies; and Revive that allows Amarant to revive a KO'd ally. The Rebirth Ring gives a high bonus to the wearer's Spirit when they level up with it equipped and strengthens the wearer's Holy damage. The ring is made via synthesis and is itself used in synthesis to make another strong add-on.

Obtain[]

The Rebirth Ring can earliest be obtained from Treno card tournament by winning against Sailor Erin/Cid. The player can save their game before the final round at the moogle nearby, but Erin only plays with weak oglop cards and so winning should not be too hard.

Rebirth Ring synthesis from FFIX Remastered

The ring is synthesized in Daguerreo for 7,000 gil, a Diamond, and an Anklet. The Anklet is synthesized in various locations, but the Diamond is a limited item, obtained from the kirk boat in Conde Petie, the Sea at Dusk chocograph, Stiltzkin in Bran Bal, and from the friendly monsters quest (but the player also needs to use one in the friendly monsters quest to be able to finish it).

ChocographLoc24

Forgotten Island chocograph.

The Rebirth Ring is also found in the Forgotten Island chocograph treasure. After the party has Hilda Garde III, they can get a flying Choco and enter Chocobo's Air Garden where the Forgotten Island chocograph can be dug up. The island with the treasure is northeast from the Forgotten Continent.

Finally, the ring is stolen from Trance Kuja. This is past the point of no return, meaning the player can only equip it for the final boss at this point.

Mechanics[]

The Rebirth Ring gives +2 to Magic Defense. It gives a +4 bonus to the wearer's Spirit when they level with it equipped. When enough "bonuses" upon level up from gear have been accrued, the character gains a permanent stat increase. Spirit is a generally good stat that affects aspects such as the HP a character is revived at, the duration of expirable statuses, how often Regen and Poison tick, how frequently the character enters Trance and how many turns they get while in Trance, among other things. The Rebirth Ring has the best Spirit bonus in the game alongside the Pearl Rouge.

The ring boosts the wearer's Holy damage by +50%, compatible with Eiko's Holy and Madeen, Quina's LV4 Holy, Dagger's normal attack with the Asura's Rod, Steiner's normal attack with the Excalibur and the Excalibur II, and Freya's normal attack with the Holy Lance.

Use[]

The Rebirth Ring is good for learning Auto-Life; though it takes a lot of Magic Stones to equip, it can be worthwhile for some of the toughest battles. Life and Revive are also good to have.

The ring's Elem-Atk to Holy is best for Eiko's Holy and Madeen, but can also be good for Steiner's Excalibur and Freya's Holy Lance. When equipped with the Rebirth Ring, Freya's basic attack with a Holy Lance will cause more damage (against enemies that do not resist Holy) than Kain's Lance or the Dragon's Hair, while Steiner's basic attack with the Excalibur will be more powerful than with the Ragnarok.

The ring's level up bonus is excellent, but level grinding and min-maxing are unnecessary for a normal playthrough even when preparing for superboss encounters; the player can view any extra stats as simply a nice bonus. The best stat-boosting items are available at the end of the game, and so for the best stats one would need to restrict their EXP intake until near the end of the game.

The Rebirth Ring can be used in synthesis to make the Protect Ring. However, there are also other ways to get one.
