Description
Raise is a White Magicks spell in Final Fantasy XII, both in the original PlayStation 2 version and the Zodiac re-releases. It is the basic revival spell below Arise, used to restore allies from K.O., or for instantly killing undead enemies.

Raise's license costs 30 License Points. In the Zodiac versions, it can be bought for 1,800 gil in the following locations after facing Ba'Gamnan in the Lhusu Mines: Rabanastre, Bhujerba, Dreadnought Leviathan, Dalmasca Westersand (after Ondore's Estate), Dyce, Jahara, and Archades. It is also found in a Trial Mode Stage 36 treasure with the Diamond Armlet equipped.
In the original release, Raise is sold for 1,900 gil after the events in Ondore's Estate in Rabanastre, Bhujerba, Dalmasca Westersand, Dyce, and Eruyt Village.
In the Zodiac versions, Raise can be used by White Mage and Red Battlemage, as well as Archer (requires a Quickening license [50 LP]), Monk (requires Hashmal), and Time Battlemage (requires Adrammelech).
Mechanics[]
Raise restores a KO'd ally to 40% of their maximum health, or to 60% of their maximum health when the caster has Faith. If targeted at undead enemies, the spell will instantly defeat them with a 70% base accuracy rate. However, if the undead target has the Safety augment, Raise will not work on them. Failed attempts simply do no damage to the undead target, but the Faith status increases the chance of it working. Conversely, an enemy's Shell status will lower the chance of instant death working.
Raise's base cost is 20 MP in the Zodiac versions, and 22 MP in the original PlayStation 2 versions, which are brought down with Channeling licenses. Raise is affected by Reflect.
Casting Raise can generate a large amount of Enmity toward surrounding enemies, endangering the magick user after reviving an ally, though a tank character can use this to their advantage.
Use[]
Raise is a useful revival spell the player can easily set up via the gambit system (Ally:Any→Raise is good near the top) and a cheaper alternative to Phoenix Downs. It loses out to Arise in effectiveness, which revives an ally to full health, but Raise is likely sufficient most of the time and can be preferable with the lower MP cost, remaining a good utility spell until the end of the game, especially when cast with Faith.
As Raise revives characters by an HP percentage, it does not matter what the caster's Magick stat is, and so can be equally powerful on characters who are not built as magick users.
Raise is the superior method of inflicting instant death on the undead over Arise (35%) and Renew (reduces targets to 1 HP but has a base accuracy rating of 0%). However, a Phoenix Down can be even more preferable.
