Rain is a playable character in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, and one of two starting units. He is a physically-geared knight serving prominently in the Physical Damage, Support and Tank roles, being more geared for the latter two, unlike Lasswell who is more offensive driven. He is able to cast some Black Magic and White Magic. He currently has several unit variants: the main one (with which the player starts the game), the Global-exclusive "Demon Rain" unit (which could be obtained during the Night of the Pumpkin event), "Hunter Rain" unit (available during the collaboration with Monster Hunter Explore), along with "Vagrant Knight Rain" and "Awakened Rain".

In many of his variants, Rain's default attack is a 2-hit attack with Crimson Saber and can generally use the same types of equipment.

Rain

Rain's job is listed as Knight. He starts the game at Rarity 2★ and can be awakened up to 6★, and comes equipped with a Broadsword and a Leather Plate. He is classified as a Physical Damage and Support-type of unit. He has no natural element or status resistances and, as a story character, no Trust Master reward.

His awakening materials are the following:

  • 3★: Esper Shard x20, Beast Meat x8, Esper Cryst x5, Litrock x3
  • 4★: Beast Meat x20, Esper Cryst x10, Litrock x8, Heaven's Ash x3, Sacred Crystal x3

Abilities

Rain's abilities for the most part are extremely limited until reaching Rarity 6★. At which point he begins to learn a plethora of useful skills including Undermine, which reduces all stats from one enemy by 30%, and Leadership which boosts all stats for the party for 40% for 3 turns, making him a valuable buff/de-buff unit. His resilience also increases in the form of larger HP boosts, although he still lacks damage mitigation as a Tank. However his exclusive-ability equipment gives him even more HP to resist hits.

Depending on his rarity, Rain has either one (2★), two (3-4★), three (5★) or four (6★) ability slots. Moreover, he has affinity to both Black Magic (Lvl 2-7) and White Magic (Lvl 1-5), thanks to which he can be equipped with Cure or Cura to provide minor healing support, for example.

Flaming Soul+1 adds the effect of boosting Rain's resistance to Fire by 50%. If awakened for the second time, Flaming Soul+2 adds a third effect: it enables Rain to recover MP (5%) each turn. It requires Support crysts as materials.

Lava Floor, which normally deals earth and fire physical damage (1.8x) to a single enemy, can be awakened to boost its damage power. Lava Floor+1 increases it power to (2.4x). Lava Floor+2 further increases it to (3x). It requires Power crysts as materials.

Leadership, in its default form, allows Rain to increase the entire party's ATK, DEF, MAG and SPR stats by 40% for 3 turns at the cost of 60 MP. Upon awakening, Leadership+1 reduces the cost to 50 MP. Leadership+2 further reduces it to 40 MP. It requires Support crysts as materials.

Assessment

Rain

Being the very first unit on the game, Rain's season one variant is fairly basic, he uses Fire and Earth elements but doesn't have too many strengths or powerful skills. At 6★ he gets an array of decent abilities in passive boosts along offensive abilities, being able to debuff all stats from an enemy or even bestow buffs to all the party. Although he has high HP, and gains a lot more from his signature equipment, this version can barely function as a proper Tank due to lack of adequate abilities, unlike more seasoned Tanks, his enhancements do not help much on this task either, instead boosting his damage and support capabilities.

Demon Rain

Rain's Halloween variant. It is overall an upgrade over Rain's basic form. It is focused on more damage and single-wielding but also has limited damaging and Tank performance. Post enhancing his abilities, he becomes significantly stronger and HP-wise bulkier, now able to function as a Provoke Tank. He is rather unique in that he forsakes defensive ability (having no defensive passive boosts) in favor of stronger damage, in fact once enhanced Demon Rain functions as a potent Counter Tank who can dish strong damage after being attacked. Demon Rain is, however, still weaker than other Tanks. Along with Hunter Rain, this variant doesn't gain the bonuses from Rain's equipment.

Vagrant Knight Rain

Rain's variant between season one and season two. As a free unit it isn't overly potent, but is a surprisingly useful and versatile unit being able to perform support, provoke tank, physical and magic damage duties, being able to provide buffs, debuffs, and damage of multiple elements, being a jack of all trades but not particularly good at any, although his passives, boost his ATK decently.

The potency of his abilities is somewhat mediocre at the time of his release, but still better than his previous variants. Also being able to cover a multitude of tasks may make him useful for newer players or even be good for missions that require certain kinds of elemental damage or chaining. This variant gains the bonuses from Rain's equipment.

Awakened Rain

Rain's form based from his complete awakening at the end of season one. Awakened Rain is a very power Magic Tank who can also serve as a Provoke Tank if required. This variant gains decent boosts on all his stats, having massive bonuses for HP, DEF and SPR at 50%, 110%, 110% respectively with the adequate equipment.

He can also work as a support unit with a 60% buff to all units, which is not as big as those of stronger support units but can be useful if needed, along with a 60% MAG Break, and can even function as a damage unit with abilities scaling off his SPR stat. His strongest attack, Unleashed Focus, deals major 10x magic damage to all enemies, although it locked behind his Complete Focus ability which in turn boosts his SPR by 200% making his damage potential even greater.

He's able to quickly fill his Limit Burst gauge, and be able to use this for either major Magic Damage off his SPR when maxed, or for his Complete Awakening ability which gives a tremendous 200% buff on all his stats, damage mitigation and both HP/MP regen.

All in Awakened Rain is incredibly resilient and can be put to other uses if required. He can also gain the bonuses from Rain's signature equipment.
