The Ragnarok [ˈræɡ.nə.rɒk] is an airship in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker with the ability to travel through space.

History[]

Constructed in secret at the command of the Forum of Sharlayan in the innermost circuit of Labyrinthos, the Ragnarok was designed to ferry passengers and cargo from Eorzea to Mare Lamentorum in a great exodus meant to serve as a way to escape the Final Days. Due to issues concerning its engine, it was rendered inert and could not serve its intended purpose. After learning that the cause behind the Final Days was Meteion and her sisters, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn were looking for a way to reach her at her nest at the edge of the universe to defeat her. Seeing a solution for both the Forum's plight and that of the Scions, Alphinaud Leveilleur struck a deal with the Forum and his father, Fourchenault Leveilleur. If the Scions fixed the issues plaguing the ship, they could use it as they saw fit.

Desperate for a solution and backed into a corner by the approaching apocalypse, the Forum agreed to the deal and showed the Scions to Kokkol Dankkol, who was the engineer in charge of the Ragnarok's engine. Due to the assistance of the Warrior of Light and the allies they had made along their adventures, various materials gathered from around the world fixed the engine's issues. Using Hydaelyn's offering of the Mothercrystal's aether as fuel for the vessel in the form of primals, the Scions boarded the Ragnarok to head to Meteion's nest, named Ultima Thule by Fourchenault.

After being forced to retreat from the Endsinger by the Warrior activating the teleportation device meant to return them to the Ragnarok in case of an emergency, the Scions prayed for their companion aboard the ship. This allowed them to prevail in their battle with the Endsinger.

Due to circumstances regarding dynamis, the Ragnarok now exists in two locations at the same time, allowing the Warrior and others to quickly travel between their star and Ultima Thule whenever they desire by simply interacting with the Ragnarok in its hangar in Labyrinthos.

Etymology[]

Ragnarok is named after the starship of the same name from Final Fantasy VIII.

In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a prophesied event triggered by the death of the god Balder. It sees a great battle between all the major entities of Norse mythology, during which the spirits in Valhalla are called upon to join the fray. The encounter ends with the destruction of the universe, and Balder along with a handful of others are reborn as mortals, with few memories of the world before Ragnarök.

Prior to being completed, the starship was occasionally jokingly referred to as a "teeny-tiny toy boat" by the Loporrits and both Alisaie and Ameliance Leveilleur.
